Original animes have a tendency to be hidden gems, and this one is absolutely worth watching.

^Original anime also regularly fail to stick the landing. Like Jellyfish, or even worse, Wonder Egg Priority. So keep y'all's expectations tempered.

@DrJamesFox I maintain that YoruKura had a perfectly good ending that closed all of its narrative threads even if I'm also disappointed they didn't get together. Meanwhile, the issue with Wonder Egg was in all likelihood less the competency of its writers and more its notoriously poor production schedule (in contrast to MayoPunch which was, according to P.A Works, fully complete before it aired).
Really though, disregarding that, you're working from a sample size of two that don't really have much in common in terms of staff or even genre; all thats been said is that its possible for things to jump the shark, which is, well, I assume everybody already knows that.
Historically, most of the mediums best shows have been originals, and they definitely tend to have a much higher cieling. Eva, Utena, Flip Flappers, Shirobako, YoriMoi, MyGo, Lain, Code Geass, Witch From Mercury, Gundam/Macross in general, etc. If anything, its adaptations that lend themselves towards unsatisfying endings because they typically have a stopping point midway through rather than contain the "full" story.
Also this shows been cool so far, genuinely quite well-written and funny.

WEP had some bizarre writing choices and veered dangerously close to outright misogyny as is went on. That's entirely on the writer

^First of all, how dare you leave my beloved Madoka Magica off your list of great original anime!
That aside, I both look forward to watching original anime because of the unknown story and maintain a cautious outlook on it because I've seen many go off the rails in the 20ish years I've been watching anime. I can't be bothered to scour my MAL for a list of them but Darling in the Franx and Aldnoah Zero are another 2 that immediately come to mind.

^I think something of note in that regard is that there's various originals that are ultimately forgettable as well. I will add that I thought 91 Days was pretty meh.

Oh yeah WEP falls apart on every level when it comes to the writing, and I'd argue has some of the worst writing choices I've seen in a piece of media, especially later on. The production issues were unfortunate, I do think even without those issues the writing would have had problems, and that there is a huge issue with the competency of the writing. Especially since even with the production issues the visuals I remember still managed to be pretty good throughout, with a lot of notable well received examples of animation. With the writing I also remember something about how the show was at least first conceptualized years in advance? It's been a minute, but I remember thinking that the writing should have been properly thought out, and yet for whatever reason it is terrible.

I didn't know what to expect from this show pre-release, but despite its silly premise it has a lot of heart. I teared up at episode 4 and the ending of episode 5 was very sweet. Masaki and Live are various shades of gremlin but they've been building up a genuinely nice relationship.
