^Yeah I feel like the second half of the series isn't as strong as the first half, generally speaking. I think even some general structure and focus choices, with what to focus on, who to focus on, and so fourth, would have gone a long way. While there's still various good things in the second half, and I enjoyed the series for the most part, I do believe they could have made everything stronger with some different choices, even with 12 episodes, but 13ish episodes with some changes could land the story in a very strong place as well.

It felt like they'd plotted the story out to episode 9, and assumed the rest would come naturally when writing. And it didn't

^I remember the creators were hyping up on twitter "Watch it until Episode 9" like they were so proud of that episode in particular and believed that once people got there they would be hooked until the end. Now from what I've heard it seems like its when the show fell apart.

That's genuinely interesting in hindsight, because that's where certain elements of the story really hit an iceberg.

It's not like the story just falls apart, the themes and character development are still clear and an obvious progression from what came before. In fact I'd say it's even more disappointing because it feels like all the elements are there, they just failed to bring them together in a satisfying way and instead settled for a really bland and cookie-cutter ending. Goes doubly so for Kano and Mahiru because the writing did more than enough legwork to give them a romantic conclusion but they don't bring it over the finish line for no adequate reason.
