Not really, as long as it's not centered on Touma's harem I find it pretty good. I find the index series much worse.

But it still involves his harem. Therefore, it sucks.
That and it treats yuri as a comedy act.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvj9LfETdB0

There's only one harem I've ever actually liked, and that was mainly because of a yuri side-couple, and some actual 'kind of' reason as to why said protag would have a harem in the first place.

I kind of want to know what this is now, not going to watch it but still.
Only "harem" i have like is the one in kyo kara maoh, its also the only shounen ai i have liked ever, mostly because the competition has literally no chance as: yuri is engaged to wolfram, wolfram sneaks into yuri's bed so much yuri eventually just lets him sleep with him, yuri and wolfram have a daughter, what is a demon king without thier quee-er other king? and since wolfram is already royalty everyone wins.

Well, it's a pretty well known harem as far as I know, it's called - Sekirei.
It's still harem, so I have a natural distaste for it to start with, but it's genuinely not that bad for a harem. And the yuri side couple is believable and pretty well fleshed out (not an actual canon couple if I remember, but heavy subtext between them). One of them is portrayed as a villain at the start, but we found out why later, to protect her 'master'.

It's been over a year since I watched it, I could have got some things mixed up, idk lol. Hell, she could have ended up joining his harem, I don't remember ^^

Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai - harem has a yuri sidecouple, pretty explicit, you see em kiss and naked in bed (probably after doing it). They don't get much screentime tho (just about 2 yuri scenes... they appear half way through the anime). I don't know anything about the harem or plot, I just skimmed through it to watch yuri scenes... Worth it! xD

Negima - heram has subtext yuri going on (tho they do kiss in the anime, seen screencaps...), in the manga's ending it says both of them get married making it PRETTY OBVIOUS that it was with each other (cuz subtext...). Never seen the series, I just took a look at that last manga chapter.

Anyways, characters like Kuroko here were the first I yuri characters I saw in anime, well... calling them that feels wrong, they are just joke characters. Probably why it took me a while to get into the genre, I thought it was gonna be nonsense similar to those, was a pretty bad first impression.

BiohunterX Dec 3, 2014 1:52PM

^ i read negima and trust me none of that was subtext. it was completely obvious , from one fantasizing about being married in her dreams to a full make out scene to make a contract that only requires a peck on the lips

Z%20ss
flips Dec 3, 2014 2:02PM

^ Does that happen in the anime?
I don't feel like going through the manga... 355 Chapters is a lil too much for me.

Nezchan Dec 3, 2014 2:15PM

The manga for Negima is actually really worth it. Things get fun when they do the genre shift and the girls get a chance to show their stuff, especially Yue (who I think should fall in love with Emily, they're good together). Just ignore the last few chapters, the ending is weak and comes off very rushed.

I also appreciate that it's not really a true harem in the sense that the lead is mostly oblivious to romantic stuff with only a few exceptions, and his focus isn't necessarily on any of them in that sense. Plus, he's actually worthy of admiration and has an interesting personality. If he was more like a traditional harem lead, I'd totally hate the series.

^The manga for Negima is definitely not worth a read. It ends abruptly, with no proper resolution to anything (it was canned), and it's no great shakes anyways. I've skimmed through it before, and while there were a few funny moments it's got a lot of problems. You'd have to be pretty desperate for Yuri to read that. There are two anime's for it which are both also pretty bad.

Anyways, Railgun is completely disgusting as is all harem. It is sick. For the record, Negima is a parody of a harem series, not an actual harem series, but that doesn't make it less bad.

Are you talking about the remake of Negima, or the original? I generally can't stand romantic harem (comedy harems are ok), but I liked the remake of Negima.

Retry
AquarianDemocrat Dec 3, 2014 8:37PM

You mean the anime remake? Because when I talked about them eliminating the yuri, I was talking about the new manga sequal to Negima called UQ Holder (where apparently Konoka is married to a guy? That's what I heard.)

The anime remake is OK, but IIRC it has hardly any yuri.

Soralaylaff
Chikaon Dec 3, 2014 8:49PM

^I'm currently reading UQ Holder (haven't finished Negima yet) and it's pretty good imo. It mentions nothing of the sort that Konoka is married to a guy (doesn't mean that it didn't happen), but maybe wherever you heard it from just assumed since the main character, Touta, is a descendant of Konoka (Konoe is his last name and Negi is his grandfather). Anyway I don't think that the yuri was eliminated at all. We don't even know which Konoe he is directly descended from. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

I liked Railgun for its action scenes and separate storyline from Index. It isn't solely focused on Touma, save for when the story merges in Railgun S.

So this series is pretty bad then heh and almost watched the anime last week I'm glad I didn't...

@TheHaku: Wtf someone else here knows Sekirei! I watched that when ecchi/harem was my life back when I didn't know any better...yet I think it was this one that got me into yuri, I have a soft spot for Sekirei because of that...for some reason I felt really curious about the yuri couple now I know why XD...and no they treated that couple with respect as far as I remember I think one of them died and the was a lot of angst afterwards you're probably thinking of one of the other girls.

No, don't just take everyone's word for it. The series is not a harem, and Touma is barely relevant and easily ignored in S1. You can safely skip Index and miss out on nothing. Beyond "lol funny pervert Kuroko" there is plenty of subtext between Uiharu and Saten, and there is other gay to be had throughout.

Yes, the main character is tsundere for an idiot and the lesbian is played for comedy. Those facts do not make the series "sick," nor do they make it a must-avoid for yuri fans. If you're looking for cool schoolgirls doing SoL things while kicking ass, Railgun is a pretty safe bet. It's exceptionally easy to watch the first episode or two to figure out if it's for you or not.

/blog end.

Might cheer ya up, found this in wikipedia:
"...snip...It is unknown if Uzume is dead or just deactivated like many other Sekirei, but in episode 10 of Pure Engagement, it is briefly shown on Matsu's computer that she is damage level 4, meaning seriously injured, but not dead which is level 5."

Ok I'll give it a try I don't mind yuri as comedy as long as is not insulting and the youtube link above gave that impression I also tried the 1st ep of Fate Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya but felt soooo disconnected and I don't know if I like it, the 1st ep gave me a meh impression and the Fate references flew right above my head since I'm a Fate noob. Rye, I can't remember exactly, but I don't think that there are very many references to Index that would need a lot of explaining. There's a few things that cross over, but I think they are made in passing and don't really matter all that much. Railgun is pretty much a self-contained setting, I think Touma only showed up once in the first season, and that was just like a random encounter type thing... working on a fuzzy memory here, so might be wrong.

Meiling%20bun%20150px

Both the baby (MC's father) and his mysterious Y chromosome could easily be explained by "a wizard did it."

Especially given that Konoka is a powerful mage herself, has access to almost limitless resources as well as scientific personnel via her friends, and specializes in healing so would be trained (by the time any child came along) intensely in human anatomy. Not unlikely in the least.

Railgun is in NO way a harem anime- there is NO harem. Index does, so dont watch that.

But since in railgun touma is an minor comedy side character who shows up for a few minutes in a few episodes- and the only person to have a crush on him is Misaka- the others never even meet him once. In railgun S2 he has a bigger part in the earlier episodes but he is still a side character, and except for a few seconds once, nobody but misaka meets him, I STILL dont see how that is a harem in ANY way??

Since when is the main character having a crush on a minor side character- and none of the other girls have even met him really, qualify as a HAREM??

IF you claim railgun has a harem you have never seen it or are lying, or confusing it with index. If you only have watched railgun, what roles these characters may or may not have in that is irrelevant.

The yuri in it IS treated only as comedy though. I think it has good characters still, besides the annoying minor side character touma.

I love Negima~ probably the only harem I fell in love with. Maybe because Negi was actually lovable as the main character. I hate most harems because I feel like the main character has 0 good looks and/or 0 skills in life but still gets 10 girls to fall in love with him??? LOGIC???

But anyways I have only watched the first season of this anime and now reading these comments idk if I should continue lol.

I hate Touma's harem antics, too, and the yuri being played for laughs is annoying, but I'll play devil's advocate here and mention that it doesn't seem to be limited to yuri. Straight couples also fall victim to this.

Whenever a character has a crush on another, their whole personality is thrown out the window and replaced with a shallow, cartoony cardboard cutout that obsessively and one-sidedly obsesses over the object of their affections. I don't think I haven ever seen a character (that didn't start in an established relationship) whose crush is taken seriously at all as of yet.

The only "pair" that doesn't fall victim to this is Last Order/Accelerator, and that's mostly because they're less of a romantic pair and more of a big brother/little sister pair, so they're never subjected to romcom antics.

For example, Misaka is a cool but slightly childish ace with a strong sense of justice, but when Touma's around, she devolves into helpless tsundere #127456. Kuroko is a diligent and straight-laced ally of justice. She's also smart and talented in her approach to crime-solving. But whenever Misaka Mikoto is around, bam, she devolves into an incredibly dumb psycho lesbian. Index is a kindhearted, incredibly friendly girl whose smile can melt hearts, effectively working as the heart of any group of friends she's on, but around Touma she's helpless tsundere #5243426. Mugino is a freaking cold-hearted villain who starts growing a heart after going through some messed up crap. She's selfish and uncaring most of the time, but around Shiage, she mellows down to the point that she's nothing more than some maiden in love.

tl;dr: The Raildex author is incredibly bad at writing romantic interactions/feelings overall, not just the yuri kind. He really should just keep romance out of his works and focus on friendship and camaraderie, IMO.

Wow, some of these comments reminds me of those over-zealous yaoi fanboys that think that yaoi is the end all and be all of Manga and Anime. I honestly thought the Yuri fandom was better this and above that bull crap. So, why don't you form an opinion on the Index/Railgun series based on what they are, rather than putting on blinders of preconceived notions, and getting all bent out of shape just because something isn't Yuri, or what you consider the "right kind" of Yuri.

006
risingstar3110 Nov 6, 2015 1:46AM

Nah Index/ Railgun series still suck even without my yuri googles bias

Firstly, you never kill a loli character. Never ever. Nope. It's not matter whether she is a clone. Or whether the killer has special background and will make it up on his crime in the end. No. Simply just no.

Secondly, frankly if the author i so desperate to put his insert into a spin-off series, despite the story has little to do with said character. Then it was a clear case of Gary Tsu without the need of further debate.

And thirdly, most importantly. The superpower of being able to negate other people superpower? This sort of broken power should only be given to a super bad boss, so it will be interesting for audiences to see how he will be beaten up at the end. Not giving it to the main hero and try to come up with excuses on "oh, it's not as powerful as you thought". Every MC wear plot armor for God's sake, and you gives him a super weapon that can defeat every big boss right off the bat? So poorly written
