^For the longest time they were a sinking ship. Being bought by WB didn't really help, and now it reached the point where they can't afford to create stuff without outside funds.
They pissed people off by pulling stuff off of youtube and making it RT exclusive and then there's the DC crossover mess which by their own admission was their idea.

The show isn't dead, given its increased popularity and success. However, since RoosterTeeth has its problems and WB being the way they are, the crew of rwby (CRWBY) might have to end up buying the rights and become independent.
RT/WB are the problem, not the actual crew of the show. They are stuck in the thick of it unfortunately, but gets a lot of unwarranted hate (see other comments here) from the "guilty-by-association" mentality.

I particularly love the show. Sure, it has it's ups and downs, but it surely as hell doesn't deserve the hate it gets... I've never seen a show so loved and, at the same time so loathed as RWBY.
That said, if they reboot it, I wouldn't bother watching. For better or worse, to me there's only one RWBY and that's the one waiting to get vol. 10 greenlight like an Irish Christmas tree.
