I've never saw a manga or anime that showed the characters at prom before. So l've always assumed Japanese schools just didn't have them.
Come to think of it the TGSWIIWAGAA is full of American music references too. I wonder if Arai Sumiko has a thing for American culture.

@johnb From what I've heard isn't the author half-Japanese? Not sure how that might play into all of this, but maybe she spent some of her early years in America or something. I might be completely wrong though, I'm mostly of the loop outside of the very few things I've heard around.

@FluffyCow Last time I dared insinuate the author may be American I got chewed out for it. I didn't even mean any malice in it, nor do I even know how that could have even been construed as derogatory in the first place. I thought it was a fair observation.

I reached out to Sumiko back in 2021, before this series even started, and she had this to say:
The thing is, I actually speak English as I used to live outside of Japan when I was younger... so I’ve been thinking about translating them myself when I have more time in the future! I really really appreciate you asking though. I’m so happy to hear you like the characters
