Gundam shows typically don't do any kind of overt onscreen romance, even G which was kind of a cornball romance from start to finish.

Pretty sure The Witch from Mercury is the first one where the main protagonists are shown to be married at all in the show itself and not just some side material, so if anything it's more than usual.

It seems a shame tho, i'd think i;d be more invested in the series's if they had more relationship stuff- but i guess most of its fans just wanna see mecha fight - and that never interested me - so i guess im just not the correct demographic for it.

It's more about politics, revenge plots, the horrors of war and unchecked capitalism, and how all of those affect the younger generation

It's definitely about the robot fights, as they form the foundation for these messages, and political rhetoric doesn't sell model kits. Even the Origin, which is almost entirely political action, manages to prominently feature mobile suit development and flash-forwards to suit combat even in the earliest episodes. Gundams are what make Gundam, Gundam.
