On the contrary, I do love this show and couple, and hope the best of them.
But this is still Gundam, where the main message has always been: war is hell.
It may not be a kill them all plot, but the possibility of everyone getting a happy ending is extremely low.
I want them to be happy, but what if things go south?
What if things don't happen as expected?
Personally, I try to keep expectations realistic.
NOT low, realistic.
Because this is still Gundam, a story about the horrors of war.
And our cast is about to march right into it.

@naschyamamoto? Who are you talking about? I don't know about all of Tomino's career but I've never heard of him being involved in Kamen Rider.

^^^^ I mean, the series was marketed/billed as a postwar setting (although obviously it's anything but). From the get-go G-Witch was trying to be different. How different is yet to be answered

Also, "the horrors of war" isn't Gundam's only theme. In fact, Tomino himself seems more invested in the other ones: people in positions of power/authority too mired in their own hubris to stop being dipshits, which often extends to parental figures; the next generation being the hope to light the future; resiliency of the human spirit being the key; Newtypes feed into that, even. Every major cast member has had something going on with a parental figure, while Earth's struggles with proxy wars have mostly been in the background, so it seems clear to me that G-Witch is going in more from that angle.
(Also, imo, war was mostly just a convenient springboard for the plot at large, especially the existence of mobile suits themselves)
