The book kind of makes me sad, cause I've tried to read it several times but I just cannot ever finish it. I get extremely bored of reading it halfwayish through every time. I do enjoy it up till that point and then I don't know what happens.
That been said, I do love this art. This is definitely something I'd never have expected to see here. It's funny how often I find myself thinking that recently.

Never seen the musical, but if I remember correctly, there is a scene in the book where Elphaba kisses Glinda on the lips when she is saying goodbye to her. It's not expounded upon beyond that quick moment, and both are in relationships with men, but I think the implication was that they had romantic feelings for each other. The book does have some other queer themes and characters, Elphaba's "father" is bisexual and was in a polyamorous relationship with his wife and a male munchkin. There's also a pretty disturbing SA scene involving a tiger and a male schoolmate of Elphaba.

Unpleasently unsurprised that the first Oz art here is what is basically fanart for a highschool au fanfic when actual canon Oz includes two girls having friend-makeouts and getting friend-married. Maybe I can dig something up...
