I'm not sure how this shit keeps surprising people. Like, at some level this same shit happened nation-wide in Imperial Japan.

Japan in the 1910s: Establishes a ton of all-girls schools.
Japan in the 1920s: Girl-Girl romantic and romantic-subtext genre explodes in popularity, almost all female authors are graduates from those all-girls schools.
Japan in the 1930s: Surprised Pikachu face, makes the genre illegal.

Seriously, you would think that people would learn at some point.

^^ Somewhat oversimplified of course, but yes it's broadly accurate. The ban happened in 1936.

Vincent, that indeed was pretty close to truth.

Also, the seminal yuri novel, "Two Virgins in the Attic" was also published as early as 1919. This novel dared to suggest that two women could go on in a relationship even after high school... And the author (Nobuko Yoshiya) herself did too. She lived together with her lov... "friend" for a long time.

^While there's still much to be done, it's impressive how far we've come. With how it's now pretty common for Yuri media to at least have an epilogue time skip that confirm their relationship continues into adulthood, one popular series that did this is Bloom Into You. There's also various adult life series where the couple live together, like "The Two of Them Are Pretty Much Like This". So I feel like the future is at least hopeful, especially with some of the news and discussions I've seen online about real life LGBTQ+ movements in Japan.

^^^ I came out in the late nineties, in the middle of the ''don't ask, don't tell'' period. If you had told me back then how far things will have gone by 2022 I flat out wouldn't have believe you. Even stuff life being able to marry and adopt felt like impossible dreams when I was 18. It's a long, hard road but things do improve over time. There is always hope if you keep fighting for what's right :)
