If Doki Doki was actually a fun Yuri VN, I would have played it. The creepy stuff just kind of pissed me off instead of scaring me.
Basically similar reasons to why I don't watch Madoka Magica.

But there's nothing like that in madoka just misdirection and half truths it's not meant to be scary

DDLC in its essence is a subversion of gal game tropes. It uses shock factor (I would hardly call it horror) to elicit a reaction, but it is most effective as a parody of the genre. For what it is, it is fairly well executed. But I don't derive much value out of it. The yuri fanworks on the other hand are a pleasant side-effect.

^^ Exactly. If you'll pardon the possibly overdone comparison, DDLC is to gal games as Undertale is to RPG's. It's played as one, but it's not meant to be viewed in the same lens, per se. The familiar hook is there to draw you in for a closer examination.
As a visual novel enthusiast, I felt it was unfortunate that the game's viral popularity ended up giving it a reputation for just being a creepy visual novel rather than what it was actually meant to be. Even so, I'm happy for Team Salvato, both for getting such a large and (mostly) positive reception and for the boost in interest it created for visual novels (a medium with a pretty severe image problem outside of Japan).
Regardless of what people saw it as, it was certainly a success and I'm happy with that.
(There's a lot of parallels with Undertale and Toby Fox actually, but that's not what I'm here to talk about :P)
edit: also, I love this meme. It's one of my favorites.

This is one of my favorite formats for yuri parody memes. Ever time, it's just incredible.

To be fair DDLC+ is a bit of a yuri visual novel. No annoying male main character, just the 4 girls and their... special feelings for each other.
