The Endless Eight was honestly a pretty neat idea, just the execution was extremely excessive, which oddly enough was kind of the point of it.

EE was strange. I mean look at all the great shows that had to have fan-service just in case. Sakura Trick is a great example. And they follow each other around with their cliches like they were American movies. Then a studio gives a show permission to do something that's so uncommercial it's insane. Re-animating the same episode seven more times, from scratch. It's literally one for the history books. The whole surreal thing probably contributed to the Haruhi religion. She's literally taken over your TV set. But Disappearance was the ultimate apology for Endless Eight. BTW there's a ton of subtext between Mikuru and Haruhi but none of them with Yuki, who has Asakura. She has a lot of good qualities, but from one POV Haruhi is a Depraved Bisexual.

About the pic- is this just a one off thing by this artist or is Kyonko a thing lol? If it is i've never heard of it before.

Endless Eight was a perfect example of why a director should never have complete free reign. it was an exercise in self-indulgence, no more. A means to stand out beyond any other motivation. As a novel reader I was severely disappointed, as the summer break timeloop only took half a novel in the original. It was never supposed to be a big deal. The issue is that it wasted valuable episode space for the more meaningful later arcs that were honestly far more interesting. This foolish move downright killed the anime adaptation to the point where they only released a movie and then had to go to spin-offs.
Ahem, that being said, Kyonko (female Kyon) is a very popular trope in the Haruhi community. It's sad how rarely she is actually used for yuri.

I was with it at first I thought the timeloop was interesting. But after the 3rd or 4th episode it started to make me mad that it took so long for him to get something so simple. I get MC's like him are supposed to be thick headed but that was to much. that every episode after like 4 I got more irritated with how much him not getting it dragged on. So much so that I don't even remember how it ends. I really enjoyed the anime up until half way through it. But not like I hate it now just don't really care to rewatch it.

Genderbent versions of the main cast were a pretty big thing back when Haruhi in general was

Nice! :D
As for the discussion of Endless Eight, it's the only truly good part of the entire series and almost had me giving the second season a higher rating than the first on MAL, but then it was followed by the absolutely abysmal filming arc bringing the score down again.

@luinthoron ? Its one of the best movies ever made- it STILL has better production in every way than anything done since imo.

I'd argue that without at least understanding "Endless Eight", you miss the whole point of Disappearance.
