My first thought when meeting the Red Emperor, "Edelgard looks really amazing in a suit of armor."

Lmao my brain was in total female himbo Byleth mode. I was like " >:( OMG a villain. Maybe a kind of honorable one but this person is doing some bad stuff! This is my foe!" and then when the reveal happened I was completely flattened, I didn't see it coming at all and it felt like such a personal betrayal.

^it was the same for me except the personal betrayal part. I was more like “MY sweet edelgard! A villain!? No!”

When Edelgard was revealed to be the "villain" I simply thought, "Finally! A game where I can actually help the sympathetic antagonist who's right reach their not so evil goals instead of just killing them"
aka "be yuri, do crimes"

^Is she really in the right, though? Don’t get me wrong, Rhea and her Church are far from innocent, and yuri is always a plus, but Edelgard essentially plunges an entire continent into a period of bloody warfare based, partially, on false information that has been fed to her by an evil, if underwhelming, third party. Worse, while her goals may be good, she fully knows full well that TWSITD are using the war to further their own goals (she even works with them directly in other routes), and she goes forward with them based on the hope that she can handle them when everything is said and done. In short, her goals are good, her methods are anything but.
And thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

^It all depends on your point of view. Maybe she was justified, maybe she wasn't. It just all depends on how you play the game.
