I miss the time before the author apparently revealed she doesn't think girls can love each other romantically

Ah good memories before the fall

If you see this image and aren't familiar with the work, don't get your hopes up, it's not yuri and the author went out of her way to include male characters just to crush any chances of yuri. Although if you only watch the first season of the anime and forget all that you can still have a good time.

Great image otherwise, though.

Also turns out the last volume is dropping this year, so the end is nigh

The source material may ultimately be disappointing but this is beautiful and I love them

Huh did not realise this...might as well sell off the bluray of season 1.

That'd be going a little far IMO. First season is great and pretty much every minute of it is produced like a romance. Just ignore everything else.

Lovely

The hamfisted way in which the author chose to slam the door shut on yuri shippers soured me towards this series. Which is a terrible shame, because I loved it a lot, and I still love their previous series, for reasons that had almost nothing to do with with any subtexty relationships between the girls.

@Random Wanderer before that revelation I was interested in watching Aria too, but now I don't wanna touch anything from the author.

I have never felt so profoundly ripped off by a second season

Wait, I didn't hear this about the author. Wow that's honestly heart breaking. So she blatantly stated it? When was this?

^In the series itself. This one seemingly female character who Futaba was competing with for Hikari's attention turned out to be a guy and Futaba not only decided to help him get the girl, but also said love between girls is different from love between a girl and a boy (which I don't think you can intepret in a way that isn't homophobic).

^Ah thanks. If it was in the anime I mentally blocked it out then, because fuck that.

What bothers me even on top of that is just how unnecessary it was. It's not like Amanchu is a romance series: the author could have gone through the whole thing without ever needing to clarify whether the heavy yuri vibes between Hikari and Futaba ever went anywhere. Sure, I would have loved to see them actually become a couple, but the pure slice of life nature of the series meant that that wasn't by any means NECESSARY for the plot.

Because of that, the whole plot line with the boy feels like the author heard some of her readers shipping the two girls, and decided to slam the door shut on that idea as hard as she could.

@juanelric: I'll say that ARIA is still a beautiful series that doesn't pull this kind of thing, and it would be a shame if you never see it, but I'd also understand if you'd just rather not have anything to do with this author's work any more.

@FluffyCow late reply but it probably was on season 2. Season 1 is fine as one of the first comments states.
