If the new storyline make people do more fan art, then I am already happy~ Ahhh never enough of Kiana and Mei even... In sad situations

Bluejayc Jul 18, 2020 1:06AM

Gonna fucking cry again

Rye Jul 18, 2020 8:46AM

Actually canon but it hurts...

Zeltrech55 Jul 18, 2020 1:19PM

How gay is this game? Do I need Yuri goggles or are they confirmed canon couples?

random Jul 18, 2020 2:55PM

^takes some very tendentious effort to not count Kiana and Mei as one, and then you have the Orphanage pair... Seele finally got back into the corporeal world in the game's storyline a few chapters back (and became playable); many feels were had
Also everyone is kinda gay for Durandal-shamaa~ :v

Backstory-wise there's also Kallen and Yae Sakura who are quite canon but have the 'slight' problem of, well, having been dead for about five centuries and counting. The former being presently very much a (studiously preserved) corpse is the driving motivation of one of the story's primary not-quite-villains; while the latter is technically canonically a sort of ghost but has exactly zero presence in the main storyline, only appearing in a side chapter or two (and decidedly noncanon transient events).

Canon pair for now are Kallen x Sakura and Seele x Bronya, other are considered into girl. The only straight one here is probably Himeko.

Rye Jul 19, 2020 8:44AM

Even saying Himeko is straight is kinda reaching. She's part of the pretty-older-fanservice-forever-single-lady archetype.

Also everyone is kinda gay for Durandal-shamaa~ :v

Can you blame them?

Xvnom Jul 19, 2020 10:15AM

Just why :')

random Jul 19, 2020 11:58AM

^^Himeko's at the very least bi going by the official manhwa, which is canon despite all the shitty writing and outright lore inconsistencies (notably over when and where Bronya met the other two) that now plagued the first volumes. Pretty much everybody else is either a question mark (Rita, Durandal, Fu Hua, the Olenyevas), effectively asexual (eternally physically ~12 yo Theresa) or various degrees of gayer than a maypole (the rest).

^ Rita and Bianka are a question mark? Those two are definitely having kinky sex and you can't change my mind.

random Jul 20, 2020 11:25AM

^ Rita's definitely occasionally been hinted to have teh ghey for her F A B U L O U S immediate superior, but it's lowkey af compared to the younger gals. (There's also the occasional implication she might have something for Theresa but anyway...)

Bianca and Fu Hua both read to me like they're effectively and somewhat monastically married to their partly self-imposed Honkai-busting responsibilities TBH. Coincidence or not both are or were, RIP Fuka also the standout girl magnets in their respective organisational settings... :P

Honkai is a good game and all with lots of yuris and I absolutely love it. But damn, the only thing that I hate about this game is how kanchou keeps interrupting the yuri garden, especially in some events but its a good thing kanchou doesn't exist in the original storyline. This is imo.

Honkai is a lot more yuri than other gacha games. It has actual kisses from official sources. I would only consider Sakura x Kallen and Seele x Bronya as canon pairings though. Kiana loves Mei, but it is unknown whether Mei loves Kiana romantically. However, given her recent development and back story, it's difficult to believe Mei doesn't love her back. For the other pairings, it's more subtext personally.

Honkai has made appreciate the extent to which people will go to overwrite homosexual scenes and relationships. I wasn't too surprised to learn the creators were forced to censor the Bronya x Seele kiss in Chinese manga releases, but what did surprise me was how happy people were to accept the censored version as canon. It has showed more explicit yuri but it has also gotten more backlash because of that, making the game revert to subtext. Just makes me sad how the playerbase doesn't create an atmosphere of acceptance for that. And perhaps as a result, the creators are also more inclined to make the captain, the literal avatar for the players, male and a part of these relationships.
