Western official translators never cease to amaze me with their translation speed
Personally, I never support heavy localized(i.e. ruined), very very slow, half-done western efforts, I just buy Japanese version if I want to show some respect for the mangaka

there are a number of series i enjoy that don't have an official English release. So whenever a series does have one, i always try to buy as a show of support

@Maximus66 I agree- If I hear its heavy handed like that I wont buy the English version.
I have the English Girl friends - its not badly done compared to many but tbh the westernization of some elements makes me still profer the fan translation.
I also dont mind ordering ones I really love in Japanese if no good English physical version exists

You know that buying it in english is also repsecting the author's work right ? Also i rather have something i can read at anytime rather than having i can't read, who is just for exposition. I buy a book to read it not to watch it like a collection item. I never heard that 7seas have done bad translations at all so i don't think assuming things right now is good. Just wait till the thing actually come out.

^ I'm with you on this one. If I want to buy a book or manga, I want to have it in a language I can understand so I can read it. Sure, having it as part of a collection is a plus, but that's not the main reason to get it. If I can't read it, then what's the point? Also, how can you tell if the fan translation or the official translation is more accurate to the original?

The author only gets money from the official translation. That's a good reason to buy it if you can't read Japanese.

^Only directly. The overseas publisher had to pay money to the Japanese publisher for distribution rights- some of which presumably goes to the author- and they are likely to buy more of their work for overseas if it actually sells well for them.
I still proffer to have them in English if I can- but I will order from Japan if its not an option- for stuff I really love.
I'd do it more often if it was easier- but it can be a pain in the ass from so sites.
Also @Lilliwyt - 7 seas did girl friends and I wasn't a huge fan of their version. Still worth buying tho.
