Which at least Silence was not aware of and only acted for the benefit of what we believe to be the experiment as well as Saria disagreeing so much with it that she left the company. Neither of them should be blamed for the higher-ups attempting to change/control the laws of nature.

Yeah I think "myrrhmidon" is just saying that the core Rhine Lab characters in game working for Rhode Island are lovable. Which as "Shira" is saying these characters aren't the higher-ups that made a mess of things. Personally I think this ship is fantastic. Silence from my understanding wanted to help people, and try to be a force of good in the company, but things unfortunately went poorly.

^^their files quite explicitly describe Silence as having been in charge of the project - Saria, the then security chief and apparently even better informed of what was going on, claims the birb was merely unaware of its goals. They apparently walked out sometime after something Ptilopsis refers to as the "Flame Demon Incident" which Saria dealt with single-handedly. (IE. obviously something involving Ifrit and presumably the proximate cause of both Silence's and Ptilopsis' Infections.)
Doesn't really explain their present strained relationship but Saria was apparently the one who bailed first, which Silence is still bitter about as per one of her voice lines.
Does kind of put a creepy vibe to the parental relationship they have with Iffy tho.

^^^ Well I think she was in charge because she was trying to do something good, and make progress towards the goal of finding the cure to the infection/illness correct? Or am I wrong? I don't think Silence realized just what the end goals of her company were. Also I don't think it's creepy so much? When Silence takes responsibility and feels bad for what happened to Ifrit, and is trying her best to help her. Similar to Saria also having guilt in that regard. I don't think it would be better for them to run away from Ifrit, when they have tools and knowledge to help her, especially when they're responsible in some way.

^^Silence tends to have bit of a mad-scientist vibe to her lines whenever Originium and its applications come up. Point being, whatever the reasons for their changes of heart it's pretty heavily implied Silence in particular is atoning for a lot of unpleasantness inflicted upon Ifrit FOR SCIENCE!!! and the latter's almost fanatical devotion to her has more than a few echoes of some kind of Stockholm Syndrome.
Curiously, both Silence and Saria seem to independently agree that letting Ifrit come into contact with the latter would be a Bad Idea. Probably has something to do with whatever exactly triggered the aforementioned "Incident" and whatever exactly Saria did to suppress it; the cause of the disturbing hallucinations Iffy occasionally suffers is likely also relevant, borderline Lovecraftian vibes and all.
^eh, they aren't necessarily standing or anything.

I think Saria want to contact Ifrit, as far as I know, Silence blaming Saria about what happened to Ifrit in "Flame Demon Incident" and prohibit Saria to contact Ifrit. I think deep in Ifrit's mind she want Saria as it show in "Operational Intelligence" event. When Ifrit feel unstable and nearly to harm people, she cry out for Saria and want her to help.

^^ "Please tell Ifrit on my behalf, "No matter what happens, I will protect you"... Face her? No, I'm not ready for that."
- Saria, trust 2 voice line
Ifrit OTOH has very different ideas: "Saria's here? Let me talk to- Silence said I can't? C'mon, what's the big deal? Bring me to her and just keep it off the record!"
She's also pretty :c over those two fighting; "What's going on between Silence and Saria? I don't understand... Hey! You know how to get them to make up?"
...yeah that's some big "divorced parents and their distraught child" energy right there, disturbing backstory or no.
Why Silence's so pissed at Saria is very much a question mark but one of her voice lines suggests she felt abandoned and betrayed when the latter quit Rhine and still isn't over that: "You mean she's here at Rhodes Island too? Is she here for Ifrit...? She walked out without a second thought, so why has she returned...?!" (She also describes Saria as "one of the people responsible for the creation of Ifrit" which sounds like Hell of a case of the pot calling the kettle black and more than a bit like externalising her own guilt.)

if any of you want some Good Stuff about their backstory; I definitely agree that Silence's anger is at least partially due to Saria's departure. Silence aims to cure Oripathy, and she's very clear about that in her promotion and trust lines. Whether her goal changed somewhere along the way to Rhodes Island or not, she's doing her best for Ifrit's sake. But. Just because Silence was in charge of a project doesn't mean she was doing everything from her own research and ideas. It's likely that Rhine Lab manipulated a lot of the project and put it under the guise of treating Oripathy. After all, there are comments from other characters (if i remember correctly) that say that Rhine Lab is quite sketchy.
Silence may take the blame for having physically carried out those orders, but she definitely doesn't seem to actively want to put Ifrit in the same situation. Ifrit is said to be improving, even. Her final file doesn't mention who sent the letter to the doctor, but I'd like to think it echoes the thoughts of both Silence and Saria - that Ifrit is looking happier than she's ever been, and she shouldn't be given up on. That Ifrit deserves to be more than what she was in Rhine Lab. These three better have the heart-wrenching story they're set up to have :(

It's obvious that whatever now exactly happened when things went pear-shaped, it was a wake-up call that caused the known project staff members take a good long look at what they were doing and not like what they saw at all. Saria and Silence definitely have nagging consciences over the whole thing (though the latter's seems more Ifrit-specific as many of her lines still carry a certain mad-scientist undertone). Ptilopsis might too but it's hard to tell given she's currently busy pretending to be a damn computer to hang on to what's left of her sanity; "-- a necessary measure to prevent the system nexus from being devoured by that other voice." Creepy, esp. if it's somehow connected to the "enormous apparitions" in Iffy's hallucinations...
Incidentally the fact that Rhine was apparently willing to let Silence just walk away with the valuable if volatile research subject (instead of doing the usual villainous megacorp routine) implies the company probably considers the project finished and that line of inquiry exhausted. The ex-staffers are presumably nevertheless under some heavy NDAs, which are probably further reinforced by the implicit threat of hit squads if they're found to have blabbered about sensitive details...
