Context: This is way back when Akane started avoiding Nemo because she had kept hidden that she wanted to be a voice actress. The situation was resolved in canon by Tomoko mindbreaking Akane with eroge footage.

^ I remember that, but I'm still completely lost as to what this is supposed to be. Is this a parody of something else?

This feels so out of character for both Nemo and Azuka imho... BUT I still like how she slapped Nemo hahaha .-.

Found the source for this (well, the first part anways): https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/66031696
The commentary, comments and tag all don't say anything about this being a parody of or reference to something.

this has got to be one of the out of place parody that the author have done. the previous ones are more comedic, but this one is bizarre.

It's just Nemo practicing her VA skills if she ever gets an edgy character to voice

@Rainendant As I recall Asuka and Akane were hanging out together for much of the 'park arc (Minami was there too for a bit but A-chan basically kicked her out for being a bitch), so that'd explain where she came from.
Doesn't quite cover why she'd get this personally involved in what's very much private Akane-Nemo drama tho.

This comic is old, it came out right after the field trip arc part 1 where all we knew about Nemo was that she had a hidden dark side that she only shows to Kuroki, kakes scary faces, smiled no matter what and was on the outs with her group.
We knew even less about Asuka.

It's funny to go and look back at comics that were made right when new characters are introduced/focused on in the story, before their actual characterization is revealed. Just look at this comic about Fuuka and compare it to how she's seen now.

IIRC this was more or less the part where Asuka was first actually introduced, but given among the things we learned about her very early on in the park arc was that she had enough patience to tolerate Minami... well, being Minami... with disapproving frosty silence instead of biting her head right off (unlike Akane) this take seems like rather gratuitous fishing for drama where little was to be found. Doubly so for Acchan who'd already had decent amount of screentime over the first school year and been well established as all-around a pretty laid back and nice gal. (Her fight with Nemo consisted of sulkily avoiding each other, recall.)
Suspecting the author may have watched too many imported telenovelas.

Classic psychopath Nemo
Before amusement ch, this is pretty popular theory back then.

nemo was doing a scary face that hasnt shown to anyone else besides tomoko + the fight with akane about not saying something important to her best friends and saying it the lonely girl no one talks with.
she has the psychopath face a few more times in some chapters but does nothing bad to anyone , she only dreams to have an SOL kinda life where no one fights or talks shit behind other people's back.
