Heh, this kinda reminds me of one of Takemiya Jin's manga.

I can totally imagine a sequel called "Let's practice kissing so by the time one of us get to confess, we'll be ready..... is for s-s-s-senpai of course!"

I guess there will be no confessing, at least not to senpai. :D

Mh yes, the plot I always want, but so rarely get. Sometimes love rivals actually have more chemistry than the one they both want to get with. If you clash so much, something inevitably has to rub off. It sometimes happens when the main crush already has another main heroine.... but even then it's rare.
I love the idea of two fangirls of a popular girl (maybe the school 'prince', or an idol) bonding over their shared attraction and eventually realizing they like each other more. There need to be more stories using this setup!

@Serenata Talk about a mouthful for that title... although given titles like BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense it isn't unheard of either.

I didn't read any of those above, but I think it's pretty similar to "Rival ha Yamerarenai!", from Nanase Miori-

@belugaval.
YuuMimo a few comments up links a Takemiya Jin manga that uses a similar premise.

Ponytail girl's left hand in the bottom panel is really bothering me, cause it looks like stretched out dough, but this is the set-up we all need.

Woah, that Takemiya Jin manga was her debut? That's awesome, I'm a big fan of hers so that's really cool to know. That whole collection is good too. I especially loved this one.

Macross Frontier didn't go all the way (outside fanfic) but IMO Sheryl and Ranka had a lot more chemistry together than either with Alto.

Sempai could be a boy. Imagine girls pursuing the popular boy not because they like him, but because peer pressure says they must. Passionately clashing with each other, each slowly starts to realize that she's not interested in boys at all.
