A large portion of the cast has hit Tomoko at least once and usually for decent enough reasons, as her own "fair enough" attitude to it also underlines. Singling out her mother seems simply bizarre.

I can't remember exact chapter in manga, but it was shown in some 9-11 ep of anime.
That standard Japanese irrelevant senpai-kouhai violence making me cry. I am trying to avoid it as much as I can.

i have seen lots of people saying or drawing tomoko in college with short hair.
what i think personally is that tomoko will graduate and then will start college with most of her friend and having that short hair(to also show that she gave up on the loner ,otaku ,stuff) , its the common settup for an ending.
