For whoever doesn't know, Anasui was originally a girl, but somewhere over the way he became a guy
Probably because Shueisha or Araki's editor thought boys wouldn't wanna see a Yuri couple up front
Proof that Shueisha doesn't understand their audience (along with the fact they push romantic comedy over sports and even battle shounen)
Now that I think of it, shonen would probably be the best demographic for Yuri manga.

Artist commentary: 'if annasui had been like their first appearance suggested, JoJo Part 6 might have turned into a yuri manga... is what i still like to think'

I’ve been so interested in seeing a yuri shounen that it’s not even funny. I even have a few ideas.

A yuri harem shounen?? A harem where the guy is straight, but the harem is gay guys or vice versa with a straight woman surrounded by gay women?? Anything other than what we typically get.

@juanelric because they didn't want to cause controversy, Shonon Jump told Araki he couldn't have a homosexual main character. So then they just said it was a growth spurt, yeah, originally was female.

People need to remember that Part 6 came out in 2000, so yeah.

Fuck yes, combining my two favourite things, JoJo and Yuri... it's already pretty homoerotic with the male characters.
Maybe since its now a seinen manga, Araki can finally make it as gay as it should have been

There are conflicting statements on the internet about Anasui's sex and the reason it got changed actually.
The most popular among fans is obviously "Evil editors didnt like gay main character", but there are actually several bits of interviews out there where it was stated that the reason Anasui was made a guy is because the manga was overwhelmingly filled with female characters already. Apparently Araki or his editor decided they needed more men in the story, so they changed it last minute.
That little controversy aside, I never liked Anasui much. Especially not with Jolyne. And switching his sex won't change that for me.

@BugDevil that's the thing, when Araki couldn't have the two as a wlw couple, he changed Anasui's personality so he wouldn't be a good lover to Jolyne. Since he couldn't make the relationship he wanted, he decided to ruin any chance for a new relationship.

^That's a cute pet theory, but in the end he still made them hook up in the new timeline.

It would've been amazing if Anasui was a female but I don't think Jolyne liked girls and their relationship was good as it was.

I still like the headcanon that, given the opportunity, Jotaro would have tried to set up Jolyne with FF, because as a marine biologist, he really wants to be the father-in-law of a sentient colony of plankton.

Its even clear how rushed Araki was and just reused Diavolo's design.

@Peccata what does it being from the 2000 have to do with anything? Ozamu Tezuka wrote about gay main characters in '76 ffs.
