Mid-riff detail is good. Lighting and shadow helps with depth of field. The unfocused periphery helps guide viewer’s attention to center of subject.

I prefer a setting in addition to subject shown here... a good effort.

I like these more realistic proportioned pieces. The typical slender look is fine but it's nice to have something new every once in a while and this is wayyyy better than the weird inflated look some artists give bigger women (ie basically still slender women just with cartoonishly big breasts and thighs)

@rayraychel: Yeah, either twiggy or exaggerated tits and thighs are just easier to draw for artists (stick figures and taking up more space on the page, respectively).

This artist made a good effort.

Huh. I'm here thinking that she looks more like a slender person who put on a few extra pounds. She's hardly chunky or chubby. But I guess by Asian standards she is?

I believe you mean “fat” by their standards. This is definitely chubby. I think you’re confusing that word with “thick” or something.

I think a lot of artists that draw skinny women with large breasts and thick thighs are drawing what they want. They're drawing something that they don't see normally because art doesn't have to be realistic. A lot of artists aren't claiming to be realistic, they're intentionally stylized and exaggerated. Which I think is fine.

I've noticed a lot of people think artists should just confine themselves to only drawing realistically. Which I often think is just the viewer attempting to confine the artist to a narrow box. I also think that's absurd because art is a medium where people can draw anything they want, anything that comes to mind. It's not bound by our own reality and the like.

People are completely entitled to their opinions and preferences. You're free to dislike skinny with large breasts and thighs. Just as artists are free to like and draw them. Also notably I'm saying this as someone who very much likes this piece of art, I like the way the bodies are drawn here.

@fluffycow: Yes, art can be expressed/drawn however the artist chooses... but I must make a distinction between art drawn for a manga and art done by artists for artwork’s sake. Art drawn for manga has deadlines and mangakas have to cut corners by making the drawings simpler in technique... which is where twiggy characters or exaggerated female features taking up the page just so the artist can finish a thirty page manga on time.

@GrimEater agree. I like slender women too but women with a bit of chub are really good
