dunno what am I going to do if by the end of the series this turn into het or just a big joke about panties

I've honestly been reading it from way back, for years now, and there's been hints of Tomoko's gayness from way back in the beggining not only with Yuu either.
Something I remember is around chapter 50 or so. Tomoko at one point thinks Nemo is into her (this was from before they had become friends and before they had even gone on the field trip where she met Yuri and the gang) and when she finds out she misinterpreted what Nemo did as a romantic advance of sorts she felt betrayed, ran out of the bathroom in tears and then fell on her face and hurt her nose in a classic cringe Tomoko moment. This isn't the only example either, this has been there for a long time now.
It would feel like an extremely sudden development if it went Het out of the fucking left field. It would be a huge damn dissapointment in my opinion.
It's been 145 chapters. Not one substantial male character except for Tomoki has appeared. It's all been about Tomoko's evolution from a loner to the member of a large group of endearing girls. The series likely will end with the end of this school year. It will probably not end up being explicitly yuri, but it's not yuri-baiting either. Its current focus is on the essence of female friendship. It's a distant and twisted cousin of Maria Watches Over Us, that way. Why worry about a het turn?

^I ain't judging how this will end, but if it doesn't end with yuri, that subsequently means it will lead to het in the future (off-screen). I don't think people are worried that a guy will suddenly be introduced and become a love interest, but that something a la "10 years later she got married to some dude" will be possible. Because usually girls figure out their orientation around high school, so if they don't here, it's pretty much a het path ahead.

^ Maybe so. I can imagine two endings: (1) Horribly, she loses all her friends and winds up where she started or (2) she chooses which of her friends she's going to stick with (whatever that might mean) and goes to college or stays behind with them. In other words, a Maria Watches Over Us ending. The fact is, she's bi, so any direction she takes will probably be confusing and ambiguous for a while.

Do you people listen to yourselves? The artist and writer are appealing to the fans at every turn and you pessimistic losers still think that a het ending is even a remote possibility. Calm down. There is not a single visible pathway that leads to a het ending, and the only way there could be one is if she basically abandoned all of her gay friends for some guy who shows up at the last minute. That would be one of the worst manga endings of all time. The fact that you even think that it's possible worries me. Do people seriously need to feel so antagonized in their own community that they have to look for problems where there are none?

^^ Calm down yourself. What's this "appealing to the fans" you speak of? I need actual evidence or no matter how you look at it, it's all just speculation. As for the possibility of a het end, I don't think it's terribly unlikely. There's a common stereotype in Japanese culture to assume girls to go through a phase like this before finding a guy and settling down. It may be that this is essentially part of Tomoko's development as a character. Starting as completely socially inept, to growing into having ahem close female friendships, to eventually getting a boyfriend and becoming a complete normie.
That would certainly be a garbage ending but I don't think it's improbable given cultural expectations.
That aside this lovely artwork! A very romantic image!

I feel like in every Watamote image/doujin, there's always people arguing about how the series might take a het turn or not. I just want a damn second season of the anime, that way they might make the yuri hints more obvious hahaha.

^ A season somehow covering the Kyoto class trip through the sports festival would be more than enough for me. My favorite part in the sports festival is where Tomoko goes through the living hell of being partnered up with the first two guys her age she's ever touched. Her comment on having to go with the second: "This would be like stuffing my face with a tempura rice bowl when I've already got heartburn from eating a pork cutlet bowl." This leads to a mind break, which she cures by wandering around watching girls cheer and looking up girls' skirts and checking out their panties. She may also have been getting points of reference in terms of "pretty pink color."

Also I remember Tomoko using the LGBT acronym correctly, like knowing what each letter stands for and such. It's not too much of a stretch to think she's investigated about it because she has some doubts and questions about herself and her sexuality

@katewarner - I think she got her "pretty pink color" eyeful (and other related details) during the class trip actually. She was in the open-air bath at the same time as Nemo and blatantly took a closer look when the latter climbed out...

^ You're right! I'm really worried after the last chapter. It's No More Nice Girl for Nemo. Tomoko has crosshairs on her. But to mess with Tomoko is to mess with Asuka. What a series.

This series started out almost completely "het" and headed for utter disaster. It's only when Tomoko was giving up her "plan" to become popular by fucking every boy in her high school that her life even had a chance of getting better. It's basically a rare example of a non-yuri becoming yuri (or at least heavy subtext and lots of overt yuri crushes (Asuka and Ucchi are unambiguous, Yuri is pretty obvious, and Nemo is likelier than not, as is her cousin).
