I've been using PNG Gauntlet on my releases. It usually reduces the size of the png's by about 10%. Some pages get compressed further, if there's not much art on the page. The jpeg's are straight from Photoshop and not further optimized; though it looks like if I knew what I was doing, I might be able to make Photoshop optimize them better.

I was just rereading this chapter and found and corrected another error. Page 161 last panel "Ema-san!?" corrected to "Ema!?" Sorry, I got too used to putting -san on Ema's name, but Yoshino doesn't use an honorific for Ema.

Molesting the manga.

Don't molest manga. You'll get paper cuts.

And beside, you might get those paper cuts in a delicate region, which might "cut" into your enjoyment.

I'll show myself out now.

In other news, the third part to Cherry Blossoms got released and it's sadly the final chapter. Update: or so we thought
RAW: http://www.shinshokan.com/webwings/contents/sakura_kasesan3/
Current TL: http://pastebin.com/6wzez3gN

Actually it looks like Takashima has stated on Twitter that there's another update due next month.
https://twitter.com/hiromi_gko/status/845124105548423168
https://twitter.com/hiromi_gko/status/845430259243671552

Am I missing something? I finally looked at the raws (I didn't actually try to read them) and didn't see anything that said it's the end of the series. The end of the 3 part "Sakura and Kase-san" episode yes, but not the whole series. So I'm assuming that Goggled Anon was right the second time and the series is still continuing till something proves me wrong.

Edit: But my, that looks nice. I can't wait to read it in English.

ch 6, pg 153 "going to far" should be "going too far"

It's fixed. Thanks; you seem to catch more error than anyone else.

Two months or so stretches into... No, don't scream. I'm kidding!

Just letting you know that chapter 6 has gone to QC so Fly by Yuri should be releasing it soon. Only 11 months after the release of chapter 5, and just over 9 month after my next most recent release! Oops, I'd better get my act together.

I was thinking that Ichiban Sukina Hito from Wildrose vol. 1 by Izumiya Otoha might fit the bill here. Well sort of anyway.

Still (spoiler warning) just two more chapters until... ♬

I'm not sure what it's about at all. I live in Sweden, and it won't let me purchase anything. A friend lives in Canada, and can purchase things just fine. Another friend lives in the US, and also gets his purchases blocked. :/

Could be a region settings problem. If you go to Your Account>Digital Content>Manage Your Content and Devices>Settings, there should be an option to select region. That needs to be set to Japan - possibly not only for Amazon.co.jp, but for all Amazon accounts you have affiliated with whatever email address you have for Amazon.co.jp.

You may also need a Japanese mailing address as your primary delivery address in Amazon.co.jp. You shouldn't need a Japanese payment address.

I say "may" and "possibly" because my settings are working for me right now and I'm not touching anything that might hinder my access to Amazon.co.jp digital content. If you're still having trouble, you could always try creating a fresh account using a JP address.

I followed Cyfer's directions above. I had to give it my full Japanese proxy address including phone number, but I suddenly have access to the Japanese kindles! Thanks Cyfer. I didn't have to change anything in my American Amazon.com account.

You could try The Power of Love by Morinaga Milk. It's a one shot Rhythm and Police doujin, not a series, but it's kind of like that. The bride runs off with the bride in the end.

I have a US address and a Japanese proxy address, and Amazon still won't let me buy kindles. Maybe if I changed my default address to the Japanese proxy it would. I'll try it if and when I finally decide to buy a Japanese kindle.

Divulge Scans has info about Japanese proxy addresses under forwarding/proxy buying near the bottom of this page on their site.

Here's what I imagine following the final chapter...

Shuu confesses to Youko and tells her she'll become a male to be with her. And then Youko says... "But I'm a lesbian; If you want to win me, you'd better become a female! That's why I've been pushing my blood on you after all."

And here's another girl who's around half a century old and never seen Madoka. (What!? Mami dies early!?! ...Wait, who's Mami anyway?) But I did see Sailor Moon one or two decades ago. And when I found myself discussing it in a bookstore with a random clerk who only watched part of it, i was careful to avoid spoilers.

Well I don't usually worry too much about spoilers for myself and routinely read the spoilers in discussions. But I still think it's useful to have the tag on relevant doujins.

Edit: I don't know whether I'd bother adding the tag to that old Sailor Moon doujin either, but if it's been requested and I think it could be a real spoiler for someone who hasn't seen it, I might. That's assuming I know the series in question well enough to tell. If it's an old series that I don't know, I definitely wouldn't take the time to research it

There is a profound lesson in this chapter regarding cybernetics: it doesn't matter how strong an artificial limb is - the limiting factor is the strength of the body it's attached to.

Ugh, that's too precious. Also is it just me or was she completely on top of the billiards table? Is that a normal thing??

Well, most professional pool players don't actually need to do that, and there are special cue extensions, but sometimes you do have to lean over half of the table to hit the white ball at just the right angle.

What I mean is she looks like she also has her right leg on it.

Nope, she doesn't have her right leg on it; she has both legs on it! Edit: Her left knee is also visible on the table underneath and behind her.

When things slow down, it's because we're overloading the server. One way to speed things up is if people do direct downloads from the release post when available, instead of from this site. That also sidesteps the eight downloads a day limit, and reduces your chances of failed downloads as well.

[... some stuff I omitted ...] And for a lot of people in less progressive areas Morinaga's work is still going to speak to them.

I live in the midwest, USA, where homosexuality and especially gay marriage are known to be the source of all evil in the world. Definitely a less progressive area. Is that why I love Morinaga's work so much?

I read the rest of this story in Japanese just before this chapter came out, and I, at least, really enjoyed it; it didn't seem in any way stale to me. I'm sure I'll love it even more when I see it in English. But then, Morinaga-sensei is one of my top favorite artists, and I think she's one of the great mamgaka's out there.

No spoilers in this comment, I did that pages ago. And I'm out of here for now.

You don't make me feel old at all, I promise.

I just turned 49 earlier this month, so that should make you feel young again.

Nice to see some old guard yuri in here. I don't feel like the oldest around anymore

Less than half a century old... Hmm, I wonder what that feels like?
...Uh, pretend you didn't hear that. Um... I'm 39... really. That's what I tell people.

Seriously? If that's the case, why can't Yukiko-sensei publish in a more yuri-friendly magazine? That's sort of depressing to know.

A few yuri artists have had a problem with this, due to the current dearth of yuri-focused magazines. Losing venues like Tsubomi and Hirari hurt a lot, and even Yuri Hime has changed focus a bit.

Hmm. I wonder if that's why Hana and Hina was cancelled from Monthly Action, a magazine that doesn't exactly focus on Yuri. And Morinaga-sensei clearly was not dialing back the yuri. And Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon is in the same magazine and it seems to me like the yuri keeps getting dialed back in it.

Edit: I miss Comic High. It wasn't a yuri publication, but it at least was friendly to the yuri that was published in it. Examples include: Girl Friends; the completion of Sighs, Kisses, and Cherry Blossom Pink; the start of Hana and Hina; Age 15; and others.

Guess I'll comment on this. My way of doing things is a little different than most, in part because I'm a solo group (except that I get a translation check from Procyon, which helps the quality a lot). Also I'm using a very old version of PS that I was able to get free.

Digital copies are definitely easier to use, but I do most of my work from scans, both that I've done myself and from others. With rare exceptions, I only do manga that I've purchased myself whether or not I'm scanning it myself. Unlike most, when I scan a volume, I don't destroy it; I break the spine in several places, and then simply press it flat to the scanner using a flat object. If done right I usually get good quality virtually all the way to the center and the manga (usually) remains in one piece, though sometimes a page or two will fall out.

Once I have the scans, since I'm doing all phases myself, is where I start doing things differently. I work one page at a time start to finish, clean, translate, and letter all in one fell swoop.

Clean: 1. Rotate the image. 2. Crop the image 3. Repair the image. Erase glue tracks, tears, creases and the like. Occasionally fixing a little darkening or blurring at the page fold if I couldn't get it quite flat. If the repairs are simple, I usually do it directly to the image. If not, I'll do it as part of step 4. 4. Do redraws. I do these on a sparate layer which makes it easy to flip between unaltered image and redrawn image. This is mostly removing text from over artwork as shown in Malibu's video, though our methods vary a little. I also by preference leave Japanese sound effects in place and place English next to them, even when it's on white space and easily removed. 5. Now I finally level the image. If it's a quality scan, this can be easy (one layer with maybe just a little extra around some of the edges using a second layer). If the scans are poor, like my old scanner did, this can take some effort with several layers using carefully contrived and feathered masks. 6. Clean the image. I use a white fill layer with a mask to cover any text, dirt, paper grains and such. If there's white text on black, I use a second black fill layer with a mask to cover it. Any text over a tone or other artwork was already covered in step 4.

Translate and letter: I'm not fluent in Japanese so anything I don't immediately understand, I transcribe. Since I don't know readings for most kanji, I use optical character recognition on this step (unless it's hand written), correcting the many errors it makes. Once everything on the page I don't understand is transcribed, I translate it using rikaikun (a program that defines Japanese words under the cursor) and online tools including dictionaries, phrase definitions, slang dictionaries, contraction and shorthand references, SFX references, and others. And then I typeset the page. I often typeset as I translate.

Then I'll generate a completed test image of the page, and look it over for anything that doesn't look right, read right, or whatever. Then I finally move on to the next page.

Doing it this way means that sometimes I go back and make changes in previous pages as I gain better understanding from future pages, but altering an image is quick and easy so that's not a big deal.

Once I've done all the pages, I go back through the whole thing and look for translation errors, revisit anything I didn't quite understand, and look for anything that doesn't hang together or simply comes out strange. Then I go over it and look for missing text, verify fonts and punctuation, spellcheck, image size, and so on. Then I do one last read through for any final change and it's ready to go... to the next step that is. What I've just done is the QC version.

Now (in most cases) I send it to Procyon (I really appreciate his help.) along with any comments or concerns I still have about it. He sends back to me any errors, especially translation errors, he spots along with any suggested changes he has. I make the changes that seem good to me (I've also sometimes caught errors at this point) and send the results back to him. Often that becomes the final version, though sometimes there are a few more back and forth's before we're both satisfied with it.

And then finally I add the credits page and voila, upload it to Dynasty. Now that was no trouble at all, right?

Concerning how long it takes me? Well that varies with the source material. The fastest I've ever done a complete page start to finish was 8 minutes (that was page 20 of chapter 5 of Secret of the Princess.) It was a digital source and I needed no translation of the small amount of text on the page. The slowest? That's hard to say. There have been times I've taken at least 3 or 4 hours on one page. Afterword pages also take a long time since not only is there a lot of text, it's usually all hand written, and it can be very hard sometimes to figure out what that kanji really is, especially if the mangaka is using shorthand. Let's see, when I did vol 2 of The Last Uniform, I was probably averaging a little over a half hour per page. What I've done so far on Age 15 I've probably been averaging an hour to an hour and a half per page. Over time, I've gotten much faster then I was at the start.

And wow, a huge wall of text. This may be the longest comment I've ever posted.

I just got my copy of Hana and Hina vol 3 literally minutes ago, and I've been looking through it. And (spoiler warning) wow oh wow oh WOW! Ch 16: it's finally happened!! Ch 18: squeeaal!!! Last chapter: I just love that issue of Milteen!!!!

Have no fear; Morinaga-sensei has brought this series to a well thought out conclusion. If it really was cancelled, then I'd say she had at least a few months of warning. This one is worth the wait. (Also, please buy the Seven Seas releases as they come out. I've already got the first volume on order.)

Edit: And oh that cover image is wonderful!

Ah, it's been since last April since I released chapter 5, huh? I've been busy with work and (deliberate attempt for sympathy) had surgery for a serious illness, among other things. And as others point out elsewhere, this is being done for free in my (currently scarce) free time.

None the less, I'm making a public announcement. This is neither a promise nor a prediction, but in an effort to get myself to somehow find more time for this project, I am announcing my intent to attempt to get chapter 6 out in a month or so from now. It is a shocking chapter that's well worth the wait.
