I think what keeps Lovecraft stuff alive is that people adapting his work add a lot that he didn't, either by way of presentation, and thus removing the overblown prose, or taking his ideas and putting them in new contexts, like Bloodborne. So you're getting Lovecraft plus the contribution of whoever made the adaption.
Agreed I liked The Case Of Charles Daxter Ward but dear lord did it drag on
Of course when that someone is Uwe Boll, the quality goes down instead.
