Between Comiket, her Yuri Drill work, and Comitia, I think she's just really busy right now. She's really sweet and it's great to see her doing well (the Yuri Drill thing in particular seemed like a big deal to her), so I'm happy to wait even if it's particularly difficult at this point in the story.

It was speculated before (I'm too lazy to search who/when) that Ayako cheated on Atsushi with Akira.

What in the world ? Why would Ayako does that ? Maybe they got a one night stand before Atsushi propose or a bit after his death but i highly doubt that Akira and Ayako would an intercourse when Ayako was married. I don't see Ayako as the cheating type nor i see Akira as someone who want to NTR her own brother.

Unless Atsushi died because of it, right?

Or maybe AKira let slip to Atsushi about Ayako's past and he feel bad for her and on the road to talk with Ayako he had his accident.

I speculated that because Ayako is emotionless. She was not committed to Atsushi because she doesn't love him. She was with him just to go along with the situation and because he was pushy. She is known to have little to no feelings or affections towards anything or anyone. We are still unclear about what Akira meant by "You know what of yours proved to be effective even against your own flesh and blood" causing Ayako to blush in chapter 8. It can be interpret in how everyone can be easily seduced by Ayako, hence Akira was amongst one of them along with Atsushi. In the same chapter page 24, Akira is holding crying Ayako (assuming it's right after Atsushi died), that the reason for his death can only be known between the two of them. Ayako then later saying it's not Akira's fault in page 26. There is obvious guilt in both of them. Akira saying that there isn't a lifetime would be enough to earn the right to love Ayako, again on page 24. Ayako's guilt is when she kissed Asuka out of nowhere to make herself feel better about the situation after seeing Atsushi when saying goodbye to Akira. With all of this, I assumed that Ayako and Akira had an affair and Atsushi found out about it suddenly and got into an accident, in chapter 2 page 6, i think it's important to note that his death was a "sudden" accident. This is just my speculations, agree to disagree

if this story is going to end in a positive place for both of them, a timeskip and some time apart is probably necessary

"time apart" would be making Asuka an orphan (severing emotional ties with her only parent, and to a large extent her only family). Destroying familial relationships, which is what I was talking about being the risk with incest.

It seems like a lot of people are seeing their familial relationship as a direct obstacle to their romance here, probably because it is hard for them to emphasise with mixing the two. But for the characters it is different.

Asuka didn't fall in love with some older woman who just happened to be related to her, she fell in love with her mother, in the role of her mother. We've seen in earlier chapters - she doesn't feel there is a line between her familial feelings and her romantic ones. In her fantasies she calls Ayako "mom" while having sex; she doesn't like using her name. She considered the "if you were strangers" scenario when Miyuki suggested it, she didn't like it.

Even Ayako the problem isn't being able to mix maternal and sexual feelings... she just did, that is what she is feeling guilty and ashamed about. Abandoning Asuka wouldn't fix her feelings of being a failure as a mother, it would consolidate them.

I have a couple of good rants about independence and time-skips/taking a break in general, but I'm late for work, so maybe later.

Yes, although it will depend on how Asuka reads the situation: if she thinks Ayako is blaming her, she may be afraid to face her. If she (correctly) thinks Ayako is blaming herself... then there will be no stopping her on her mission of reassurance.

A lot may depend on Akira (particularly in the first scenario)... unlike Ayako she seemed to take Asuka's feelings seriously from the start (but probably believed Ayako would never reciprocate, despite teasing her). Akira is in a good position to talk Ayako down and clear up misunderstandings between them... but faced with real possibility of them getting together... does she want to?

This is exactly how I see it. Asuka is gonna go pick Ayako up and they will both hold hands going home.

Here come the chapter. Like i said in spoiler, i think Ayako might be a lesbian (in the closet probably) but wanted to have a family, since she doesn't have her mom when she was younger. When Akira's bro propose to her, she probably cease the opportunity to have a family and have the family she doesn't have but Husband die (probably because of some shenanigans with Akira since she feel guilty about it. Not that she is the one who kill him directly but she might have said or done something that cause him to have the accident) and she have to raise her daughter alone (well with the help of Akira but mostly alone). I think she have succeed to keep in check for the few times before for Asuka (thought some moments have been harderthan other) because she know that Asuka wouldn't go anywhere far from her and she will still be her daughter but when she see her with Asuka's Senpai, she realise that Asuka could possibly be snatch away from her and ruining her family.So she decide to get along with Asuka's antics to make sure Asuka stay but the ending make me believe she realise she gone a bit too far.

This is what I think, Ayako never felt love for anyone and didn't care much for relationships. She probably just went along with the marriage because she doesn't know what to feel. When she got married, she probably cheated with Akira and the husband found out. Might leading to him getting into an accident right after finding out. Hence why Akira feels guilty about her affection for Ayako. I'm guessing when Ayako's stated "someone like me wanting a family with someone was a long dream from the very beginning", Ayako probably wanted a family so she can feel "normal". I'm not 100% on that Ayako wanted a child primarily but she probably did it to be "normal" because she think she's an outcast for her lack of emotions. In addition to her being a cheater, she thinks she doesn't deserve to be happy? Also a far stretch because we don't know 100% she was sexually assaulted as a child, she probably thinks she's "tainted" or "dirty" like most common women think when they are assaulted, hence her not deserving to be happy. Idk this is just what I think.
But who knows? We might when Taiyaki posts the next few chapters. I'm so excited for Ayako's past.
