NoRaeMi:

Anyone know what the hearts mean on the comico website? Is it just 'likes?'

Yes.

The tooltip on the heart button says: 좋아요.
(See here http://comico.toast.com/titles/85/chapters/29 at the bottom of the chapter for an example.)

좋아요 means "I like it" or "I love it".
(halmoni can confirm or correct if she wants.)

NoRaeMi:

Why does FF have more than twice as many hearts as the second place comic? I'm very curious about that.

Because it's goddamn awesome, that's why.

I commute all the time too, for more than an hr. It doesn't feel like it's more than an hour if i am thinking about what might happen to them. I used to do that to Citrus then but i like FF mooooore now.

Whatever you came up with for Citrus probably made more sense than what actually happened when it came out in the chapters.

There needs to be a spin-off/alt universe where No-rae is a thugish, tomboy, gang type girl and Seol-a is more or less in the same position as FF and they meet and fall in love. It would be kinda awesome.

I don't think we need to worry about a het ending anymore.

Now we have to worry about a bat ending.

Seol-a is pronounced more like "Suh-ra" and No-rae is pronounced "Noh-reh".

Judikt:

Is it possible for you to write down the names in the same order that you're saying them? I'm not familiar with the Korean language at all. Going by your pronunciation, Kim No-rae was the only name I've read correctly so far.

This picture with the character profiles shows the names she is pronouncing, in the same order:

Yeah, last week's chapter wasn't 29화 (chapter 29), it was 특별편, which translates to "special edition".

The numbers in the URLs on Comico are meaningless; they're just "dumb" numbers that automatically increase with each post by the author.

PPS: @halmoni: if you're gay for Seol-a's mom, I could say I'm gayer for No-rae's sister, Kim Geu-rim xxD
I have lots of headcanon with her meeting Seol-a for the first time....

Speaking of Seol-a's mom (because the best sentences always start with "speaking of ...'s mom"),
funny how nobody has yet mentioned Seol-a's mom from her appearance in chapter 27.

Now, we know where Seol-a gets her looks from.
She doesn't sorta look like her mom; she looks exactly like her mom.

Whenever someone asks if FF is going to have a het ending, I die a little on the inside. If FF ever ended that way, ssamba would be the greatest troll the world has ever seen.

Srsly, the stuff some people say is ridiculous. So the author drew all those "fan art" images of them together, spent countless chapters detailing their interactions together, even named the frickin' thing with their names combined.

... But this obviously points to het ending. OBVIOUSLY. What other outcome could it possibly have??!

Those 2-3 chapters featuring Ji-hwan were an all-time low. For the shit that the people were saying, that is. It was 2-3 weeks of nonstop "omg hetshit gtfo".

God forbid this thing actually has a story and some semblance of realism, not just nonstop fanservice or yuri clichés/tropes (to quote moonfrost13, "for example: shouted confessions, bursting into tears, sudden kisses, etc.").

Side Note:

Does anyone else keep track of how many "hearts" Samba's getting per chapter? I'm pretty impressed (first of all) that Fluttering Feelings seems to be the most popular manhwa on the site, by far. I think the next closes has maybe 1000 hearts per chapter (and Samba's is 5 times that). Which is promising regarding its future. That being said, last chapter seems to have been a "low," for the series (not an all time low, mind you). Which was both disappointing and slightly odd...I mean, it was (I guiltily admit) one of my favorites.

Yup. ~5000+ ❤ per chapter. That's why let's keep our support up. I, for one, left a comment for the first time on the site (just created an account lol sorry Ssamba :)

[...]

I think the last time I checked (maybe a few weeks ago), it was roughly at around 100,000 hearts, but now, it's almost at 150,000.

In comparison, the 2nd most popular on Comico has a "mere" 50,000-60,000 hearts.

I love how this chapter canonizes FF to be a yuri or as Ssamba said:

"Lesbian, yuri, GL, queer, they're all correct.
Please just call it whatever you'd like.
To be honest, those genres aren't very meaningful to me, or to the manhwa called Fluttering Feelings."

Yeah, I seriously hope that after this, all those people will kindly STFU.

By "those people", you know, I mean the ones (not necessarily on DS) who say shit like,
"yo dawg, is dis yuri, cuz if it aint, i aint readin it"

So I came across these gems on Youtube just now. It's chapter 1 and 2 set to some great music and a trailer going up to about ch.14.

Fluttering Feelings Trailer (Of Sorts)
Chapter 1 - With Translations and Good Music
Chapter 2 - With Translations and Good Music

It's my first time listening to Korean music, pretty good stuff.

If I'm not mistaken, those videos are actually uploaded by a user of this forum joeybackpackz.

Actually, I really like the first one:
Fluttering Feelings Manhwa [FanVideo] (up to chapter 14)

For some reason, the music really fits (though the lyrics probably don't, lol).

Ehh... can't be sure, but she might mean that it's one of those "non regular" chapters. You know, in other manga, it would be those chapters that typically have a ".5" number, like chapter 28.5 instead of 29. And they are usually a side story.

The only "special" chapter that has happened so far in FF is the Chuseok Special, which was between chapters 5 and 6.

Not sure what she meant.

I was wondering about this as well... I don't know whether to be excited or bummed if that means the next chapter won't continue where this one left off from. =/

On the bright side, it gives you more free time to create more fan art. :D
I kid I kid ... well, not really. :P

littleyuri:

@Anon Of course. Just saying that if they fought and made up in like 1.5 chapters, I'd find that a bit bad... Can't word it better but I think you understand.

And yeah, I feel you about Citrus, I found Citrus fodder tier in terms of the yuris I've read. Oh god, I hear them coming! I better hide!!!

Yeah, I getcha, it would seem like it's too quickly resolved.

But there isn't any "right" amount of time for a fight to last in a story. It should last as long as it makes sense in the story's progression. And yes, the fight should actually progress, not just kind of "turn in circles". ... Yes, like Citrus.

No, seriously though, I don't want to keep using Citrus as an example, but for me, that's a perfect example of a "fight" or a "conflict" that's going nowhere fast. At a few points, it seemed like it was actually progressing, but then the author would do a "reset", and a very non subtle and nonsensical one at that, such that any progress so far is basically discarded, and the characters are back at square one. And the theory that most people have is that the author is trying to stretch out the story at the expense of... the story.

So all that to say, I just want the story to move in a way and pace that makes sense, whatever that might be. (In ssamba we trust?)

@Anon Yeah! I do hope that they're not reconciling any time soon. I want more drama so that when it's finally time to make everything right, it's going to be a lot, lot sweeter.

Ah, just one thing though. I wouldn't want them to be unnecessarily at each other's throats for a very long time for no reason other than dragging the story out. (You know, like Citrus.)

Like I said, so far, to me, everything makes sense and is fairly realistic. But if 10 chapters later, they were still "fighting" for not good reason (like Citrus), or you would have characters acting bitchy for no apparent reason (like Citrus), then that would not be good storytelling (like Citrus).

... OK, sorry, I shouldn't bitch about Citrus here. That's what the Citrus thread is for, lawl.

Yeah, it was as if some people were expecting that the beginning of chapter 28 would be the typical cliched scene of "I... really love you, Seol-a-chan!" "I really love you too, No-rae-chan!!" then crying, then hug, then kiss.

Well... this is not what FF is about. I mean, I cannot speak for the author, but as far as I can tell so far, she is going for a fairly realistic (but no less riveting) depiction of the development of their relationship.

Random Reader:

Agreed, I've been really enjoying the slow build up of their friendship and the growth of those romantic inclinations. It's been pretty refreshing.

Yeah.

Minor rant: It's a bit annoying sometimes that certain people (not necessarily here on DS) keep saying stuff like "how come they didn't kiss yet" or "they should get together already!! come on!!!" I mean, if they're looking for "instant gratification" manga/manhwa, there are literally hundreds/thousands of them out there, especially all those one-shots where it is pretty much guaranteed that the couple will get together by the end of the chapter.

By the way, I'm not saying I'm against those kinds of stories either. I'm just saying FF is not one of those stories, and people should not be surprised or angry at the pace of the development.

anonymous:

If anything, I find No-rae's reaction to such a realization quite realistic. Firstly, No-rae has been "straight" up until now in her life. Well, you know how it is in today's society: you're "straight by default". To suddenly realize you have feelings for a person of the same gender is not exactly a minor realization. Probably even more so in Asian countries than in Western countries. And secondly, even without the same-gender issue, in real life (as opposed to typical manga), I would think it rarely happens that you realize you're in love, then you immediately proceed to scream it out at the other person, in public no less.

Random Reader:

To be honest, I don't think this has been made clear yet. I see it more of No-rae reacting in relation to what happened in her past and not wanting to go back down that same path. Get into a relationship, have your heart broken big time, and so on. I'm suspecting she's a bit phobic of having another romantic relationship and less about if it's with a man or woman. Could be she's just assuming that any future romantic relationship will just end the same as the previous one, especially if that was her first one.

halmoni:

I think No-rae is angry, but she's angry at herself. She never wanted to fall in love again, and that's why she's always been really careful about guarding her feelings; yet, she let Seol-a in. Chapter 28 sort of confirmed my speculations from the last chapter. No-rae has finally realized that she loves Seol-a, but now that she knows, she wants to distance herself so she won't have to go through the same pain again.

Ah, yeah, could be what you guys said too. (Those were just two random theories on my part. Obviously, everything said by me or anyone else is pure speculation and conjecture until it is explicitly stated in the manhwa.)

You guys have a good point too; No-rae's past relationship is a huge plot point that hasn't been explored much up until now.

Ah, and I just realized,
instead of using the Console in the Developer Tools (which is slightly awkward to do repeatedly),
you could in fact create a bookmarklet for this.

All you have to do is create a new bookmark on your browser's bookmark toolbar, and put this as the URL of the bookmark:

[...]

HypocriticalLiar:

Oh gosh, this is way better. Thank you again! (I simply like to go back and read the conversations sometimes, so this makes it ridiculously more convenient :) )

guavagusta:

Agreed! Very cool!
I found on my version of Firefox it doesn't work unless you name the function.

javascript:function show(){$('.spoilers').removeClass('spoilers');} show();
or
javascript:function show(){$('.spoilers').removeClass('spoilers').css('background','lightgray');} show();

ARGH, I thought I remembered to fix that.

Thanks for that!

Yeah, in Firefox, it makes your page navigate to a blank page that says "[object Object]".

My usual trick to make it work for Firefox is to surround the whole thing with
(function(){
and
})();
That way, it creates an unnamed function and executes it right away.
/geekstuff

So my fixed version that works in all major browsers including Firefox:

Random pro-tip

Bookmarklet to unhide all spoilers on the page

Create a new bookmark on your browser's bookmark toolbar, and put this as the URL of the bookmark:

javascript:(function(){$('.spoilers').removeClass('spoilers').css('background','lightgray');})();
This removes the black highlighting and replaces it with light gray highlighting.

Alternatively:

javascript:(function(){$('.spoilers').removeClass('spoilers');})();
This only removes the black highlighting. (You won't be able to tell what used to be marked as spoilers.)

Now, you essentially have a 'button' on the bookmark toolbar
such that when you click on it, it will unhide the spoilers on the current page.

(Edit: I think I'll post this in a new, separate thread, since the "black bar" problem doesn't even apply in this thread anymore.)

All of that beings said, my huge question is this:

Last chapter (chapter 27), No-Rae was acting out of character since the very beginning of her dinner meeting with Seol-A. My question is why. There was no indication from Samba that No-Rae had realized anything at that point. Back on the class trip, she had fallen asleep on Seol-A and yet now, she's stuttering when Seol-A loops her arm through her own. What exactly was it about the dude's confession that started this? Why did she suddenly call Seol-A to meet up (no, legit question...I'm pretty sure it wasn't just because they were both in the same town; she must have had a deeper meaning) and then subsequently proceed to ignore her? I can understand the ignoring bit if she was afraid, but the more I'm reading this, the more it seems like No-Rae is angry, not afraid. I mean, the stuff that she's saying is pretty harsh (even oblivious!dude mentioned it).

littleyuri:

Man! I was thinking the same thing!
Calls to meet up ---- Then I just go to the washroom and then you have a guy already? F you dude! Like, I wanted to spend the rest of the day with you and then you have another company anyway...

[...]

Likely, something in No-rae changed with the whole deal with Ji-hwan. If you remember, during her talk with Ji-hwan, she said...
Ji-hwan: ...Are you waiting for love at first sight?
No-rae: Rather than that...
No-rae: .....
No-rae: I don't know..To be honest, even I don't know what I want exactly.

Through that event with Ji-hwan, she probably got one step closer, though subconsciously, to realizing her feelings and "what she wants".

Maybe that's why she wanted to see Seol-a. Or maybe it's nothing special that she would suggest that they hang out. They've already hung out many, many times in the past. Except that time, her behavior around her is now a bit different because of the evolution of her feelings.

Random Reader:

Nailed it!

No-Rae's friend is not lying in saying that her inner wall is hard to crack. However, that does not correlate to her own feelings. If anything, No-Rae might retreat even further into herself since she just realized she might be romantically inclined towards Seol-A. And, as someone unaccustomed to South Korea's views on homosexuality, we do not know how she'll react based on her past romantic history and the fact Seol-A is a woman. So, just because she realized her feelings does not mean she'll follow up on them. If anything, I think she might shut them in and make it much harder for Seol-A to approach that inner wall just like how she closed the door on Ji-hwan.

Yeah, it was as if some people were expecting that the beginning of chapter 28 would be the typical cliched scene of "I... really love you, Seol-a-chan!" "I really love you too, No-rae-chan!!" then crying, then hug, then kiss.

Random Reader:

But to think she'd give Seol-A the cold shoulder like that at lunch though. Ouch.

Yeah... you can really feel how much that hurt Seol-a to hear that.

And that fake smile No-rae gave... contrast that with her genuine happy smiles last chapter.

How many are on the team exactly? Or at least, volunteering time to help get this series out to the rest of us?

halmoni:

I'm not sure on the exact numbers, but I think our current team is something like:
Translation/QC: Halmoni
TLC: Kanaria (possibly on break or she quit)
QC/Raws: jrdp_18, Gulf Standard
Rough typesets/Raws: Quick Cook Oatmeal
Cleaning: kubrick, winter, takachi
Editing/typsetting: Ryo

Random Reader:

Oh cool! From what I gathered, it only seemed like a handful of folks working on FF. (I seriously thought it was something like... 4 people lol.)
And, TLC?

halmoni:

Before we moved to YuriProject, it really was just 4 people (me, Kanaria, jrdp_18, and Ryo) for quite a while. Once we moved there, more people wanted to help out with cleaning and stuff. TLC is translation check, or basically looking for any errors and making my translations sound nice.

Wasn't there another guy/girl called "Haggant" also?
Name's in the credits of the first 18 chapters.
Whatever happened to him/her?

Anyway,
though this is often said and repeated (but can never be said enough),
thank you to every single person who does this work completely for free to bring this to us.

And now, some (completely useless) trivia:

Kanaria's (TLC) name is actually No-rae's name in the Japanese version of FF.

In the Japanese version:
Kim No-rae --> 加奈リア Kana Ria
Baek Seol-a --> 白雪由紀 Shirayuki Yuki

You would think they completely changed the names, but from what I can tell, they are mostly actually derived from the original names, in some fairly strange, convoluted ways.
I believe the names came about like this...

Kana:
Kim --> the hanja for Kim is 金 link --> one of the readings of 金 is kana link --> kana can also be written as 加奈 link

Ria:
... No clue. Maybe they could not find an equivalent to "No-rae" that sounds good in Japanese, so they just changed it to a random name.

Shirayuki:
Baek --> assuming the hanja is 白 link
Seol --> assuming the hanja is 雪 link
together, 白雪 --> one possible reading is Shirayuki

Yuki:
It seems to come from:
雪 --> one reading is yuki link --> yuki can also be written as 由紀 which is one of the ways the female given name Yuki is written link
So in fact, they used the word Seol 2 times -- once for the 'yuki' in the family name Shirayuki and another time as the given name, but written differently as 由紀. Maybe because 白 just by itself would have been a strange family name in Japanese. Dunno.

Meanings:

Kim/金 means gold.
It is a very common family name in Korean, Vietnamese and Chinese ("Jin" in Mandarin).

As for No-rae... no clue about the hanja. (I believe this is a native Korean word, as in not derived from Chinese, so I don't believe there is a hanja for it.)
As already mentioned in Chapter 17 and 19, it means "song". link

If my assumption of the hanja for Baek Seol is correct,
Baek Seol/백설/白雪/Shirayuki basically means "white snow".
It is in fact the translation in Korean, Japanese and Chinese for the fairy tale character Snow White:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Snow_White#Translations
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/백설#Korean

I'm not Korean nor Japanese, so if anyone sees any mistakes, feel free to correct me.

Random pro-tip

Given how most of the pages of this thread is now covered with black bars, this tip might prove useful to some, especially those of us who are following the latest chapters.

If you want to get rid of all the black highlighting for the spoilers (the black bars), you can use the following bit of JavaScript.

In Chrome, Firefox or IE, press F12 (Command Option I on OS X) to open the Developer Tools, then go to the Console tab, then paste the following line of code and hit Enter.

$('.spoilers').removeClass('spoilers').css('background','lightgray');

What it does:

  • finds all the elements on the page that has the "spoilers" CSS class
  • removes the "spoilers" CSS class, hence removing the black highlighting
  • adds light gray highlighting so that you can know what was marked as spoilers

If you don't even want the light gray highlighting, use this:

$('.spoilers').removeClass('spoilers');

By the way, you don't have to keep copying this text. You only need to manually paste it into the Console once; afterwards, you can press the Up Arrow key in the Console to bring up previously entered commands.

Hope this proves useful.

(Come to think of it, it'd be nice if this forum had such a button. "Show all spoilers" or something.)

Honestly, I haven't created fan art in... a decade. lol. But I felt so inspired while following along with Seol-a and No-rae's blossoming love story that I pushed myself to learn the basics of photoshop in order to draw this artwork of them. ^^

They're from the ongoing manhwa/webtoon "Fluttering Feelings" (aka Exciting Feelings). I highly recommend reading it.

There is way too few fan art of FF out there, whether on DA, Pixiv, so on.
(By few, I mean practically none.)

Edit: This artist is in fact moonfrost13 who posts here! Added extra source link.

Oh, wow, I didn't expect to see my fan art here. Thank you for sharing it. It means a lot to me that it's being enjoyed by fellow FF fans. :) I normally search for fan art or read fan fics as a way of coping with the wait time between releases but, since I couldn't find any for FF, I decided to attempt making my own because I was desperate. haha.

No, thank you.

Hey, somebody's got to get the ball rolling. :P
