Is there any extras in the tankoubon?

A three page-bonus story for this titled (no points for guessing this one) "I Got Myself a Big Sister."

I should've known better than to think Sailor Avalon would make a mistake, but this was author (or publisher) error. The name as it appears in Tsubomi and in the tankoubon reissue are different. The original "Kawano" spelling was probably a typo, but this release is correct in terms of what it was actually translating. Lililicious has noted the change on their Tsubomi page so no further action should be necessary.

Right, I certainly wouldn't suggest just arbitrarily changing the title of somebody's release. I did mention it to SA so we'll see what she says. Obviously it's the same story whether her name is Kawano or Kouno.

These will all be translated, except for the "Graduation Day" story.

Note one thing we learn from the tank is that Sailor Avalon actually got the name wrong here - the second lead's name is Kouno-san rather than Kawano-san, and the title thus should be "My Beloved Kouno-san."

Oh I translated this. Here it is.

Just received the book release today from amazon.cn. I made the account expressly for this order and can't read a word of Chinese, so it's an option that should be available to anybody. Final total cost was 23.40 USD (I make no claim I couldn't have gotten it for less).

Some observations

• I would have been surprised if it were standard paperback size rather than typical manga size, but it's wayyy bigger than that. The thing's like a damn atlas. It's huge. I think the Sun Jing on the cover might be taller than I am.
• The given English title is SQ: Begin w/ Your Name (where S is Sun Jing and Q is Qiu Tong). On the frontispiece though (which depicts the artist at work) there's a book on a desk with this as its cover image and the title Their Story.
• We now have official chapter numbering. There seem to be titles for each chapter, though I can't read them. Chapter 1 begins with this strip and ends with this one. (Note the compilation isn't identical - this strip and the "wishful thinking" episode aren't included.) Chapter 2 is from here to here. And so forth. There are 8 chapters in all, with the last included strip being this one (not yet on Dynasty).
• The end-of-volume material has pictures of the leads kissing and stuff, which honestly kind of takes me out of the story a bit and makes me fearful we won't see further releases. (The side text that I can't read might explain these away though.)
• In case the gorgeous cover image wasn't gigantic enough for you yet, a poster version of it is also included, along with a postcard featuring this image.

I can't really say there's "yuri" in this manga.

I think this series is more likely [rhymes with Mojo Pie] than yuri.

They're the same. If you feel melancholy in anticipation of spring coming then you are dreading it.

Well I learned some interesting (terrible) things talking to Yotsuhara, so I'll mention them here.

Basically, she's unemployed. Her last serialization ended in August, and she hasn't been able to find work. She wants to write yuri, but nobody's publishing it right now. She was advised that her best chance to get picked up was by drawing attractive male characters to appeal to female readers, so that's what she's been working on.

In happier news, her father just published his first book, a collection of essays titled Pedometer in Hand, under his real name, Furihata Toshikazu. The book features a cover illustration by Yotsuhara and can be purchased here.

My assumption was the tag would only be used when it wasn't otherwise obvious the release was continuing the story from another one.

I tagged this based on Pekoe's suggestion in a prior thread. When stories appear in the same volume (especially consecutively) I don't think the tag is really necessary, though I also don't think it would hurt in any way.

Happy to see this completed, this is one of my all time favorites. Perfect yuri.

Since we're arbitrarily pasting our own tastes over other people's enjoyment: Girlfriends is my least-favorite yuri series that I've read to completion.

Probably an arbitrary throwaway to the most famous opening lines in Japanese literature, like that dreadful Kawai Roh series that name-checks No Longer Human. Compare a book about golf titled To Tee or Not to Tee - it doesn't actually have anything to do with Hamlet.

Why? It's the 'e' at the end that lengthens the 'u' vowel. Adding more 'e's would naturally lengthen it further.

Oh wow the mangaka's art has improved a lot since the prequel / previous chapter of this series.

This was actually released in November 2011, just a couple months after the original. But given how much it differs stylistically from all her other work, it's possible Ohsawa actually drew Dusk, Orange when she was much younger and just never managed to find a publisher.

I was panicking because I wasn't on hand to post a link to the first story as the first comment. Guess which superhero had already done precisely this.

It's the difficulty of having to use one term (here "troubled") in a variety of different contexts. There's no perfect solution so you're correct, the translation is not optimal. It's not a literalism issue, however, and overall this is not an especially literal translation.

I know it's been discussed before, but is there a more streamlined way to handle two-shots and other non-chaptered story continuations? It can be hard to find a sequel or previous installment even when you know one exists.
