Some people are bi or discover their preferences late, you shouldn't be bitter about that.

I like this, usually the cliché is that it's pretty much always the older woman who introduces the younger one to same-sex relationships.

I'm not a fan of this trope more because it portrays same sex attraction in women as still revolving around men in the form of being hurt by men pushing them towards women. It treats it like some kind of trauma response and leads into all kinds of gross mindsets about "fixing" sapphic women.

I don't hate this trope, but I do think it would be refreshing to see two people meet up like... Normal people, like in a dating site or gay club or just knowing people who are gay or friends who know people who are gay. I feel we don't see enough of that, with the only real long lasting story I can think of doing that being Shiminami Tasogare... Which isn't so much yuri as it is a look into the LGBT community.

*Actually, Marisa x Reimu is probably as popular if not moreso. That said, MariAli is certainly up there in popularity, and one of my favorite pairings in all of anime, manga and Japanese games. Meiling and Sakuya is big, too, and oddly, the sisters Remilia and Flandre.

They are about even, with Reimu and Marisa winning maybe by one or two doujins. Either way, they both have popularity, and Malice shippers are generally more devoted (literally being called a cult sometimes).

Adult Life is such a blessed tag, especially when paired with a doujin of a high school anime.

Also, I don't think I like the new girl. Her design is nice and all, but her power is a bit too broken to be interesting. It seems like she just wins unless a deus ex machina stops her. Sure, she technically has some sort of time limit on her power use, but that's so ill defined that it's no better than plot convenience.

I don't think that's much of an issue in the sense that power levels have never really been a thing in this story. I'm going to guess that her power is meant as a thematic foil to Baiser's; Alice strips away their agency and pushes them into roles that she defines. Whereas Baiser physically restrains them but ultimately pushes them into discovering new things about themselves.

This is all wacky, galaxy-brain media analysis though, so more likely the author just liked the idea and rolled with it lol

I mean, when you think about it, this all plays into the villain team’s BDSM theme. Baiser’s just a straight up dominatrix, Kiwi’s abilities focus on inflicting pain, and Alice’s focuses on taking control. In a way, Utena’s teammates are just extreme versions of Utena herself.

IDK if I'd say Utena's teammates are more extreme than Utena, but I definitely get the whole BDSM theme.

It's a pretty strange saying, but not terribly uncommon. I'd say it depends how long you've been into anime. People who have seen it for 4+ years tend to know it while those less don't. It's earlier if they're into manga or Visual Novels (IDK about LNs).
