So i take it that this series is no longer on hiatus?

This was simply the remainder of chapter 4 which hadn't gotten published, so it's not certain yet, though I think it's close to certain it will continue. But for now I'm leaving it listed as on hiatus until I see something definitive about the next chapter. I can't guess when that will be.

Edit: Oops, for now turned out to be only a few minutes. I just checked Morinaga-sensei's blog, and she updated it two days ago. She says her Princess series is resuming, that is this series, The Princess's Mirror. So as of now, returning this one to ongoing.

Fuck, I would never condone torture in real life, of any kind, on anyone. I've heard the excuse "it's okay to like it, because it's not real" several times, mostly applied to loli. I would say instead - I only like this BECAUSE it's not real. Seeing people mixing reality into it, somehow, makes me feel really sad. Ugh, I guess I'm still to weak to handle the internet.

Your're right. Not only is it fiction, it's clearly not intended seriously, so we shouldn't read to much into it. But while reading this I found myself thinking "You'll end up killing someone." And from her comments about using fire and the censored image, I wondered if she'd already killed someone. (I'm sure that in the story line that's not so.) And so I had to say something. Sorry about that.

If the MC had actually chosen to be in the club, or was allowed to freely decide whether or not to participate, it'd be easier, but since she's literally been subjected to torture against her will as some sort of demented hazing ritual, it might have crossed a line for me. Even if they talk about her "natural aptitude", or whatever, it's still uncomfortable that they tried to force her into it from the start, instead of just putting it in front of her so she awakens to it on her own. Starting her off with something that could easily kill her through water poisoning or suffocation is kind of awful as well, especially when she has no way to indicate if she's seriously in trouble.

An important point. Many people aren't really aware that too much water is toxic and can kill you. A person will virtually never drink a dangerous amount by chance, but the amount listed here can sometimes be dangerous. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication gives some information about water poisoning, and specifically mentions that this torture method (water cure) can cause it.

Edit: There were several cases mentioned of young children dying from this amount of water or less, but even an adult can be at risk from this much. I just wanted to point out that Seven Seas has now published vol 1 of this in English. They are also scheduled to publish volume 2 on Apr 7 2015 and volume 3 on Aug 18 2015. I would suggest that anyone who likes this series or wants to see more published yuri in English should buy them. I just received volume 1 and and pre-ordered volumes 2 and 3 today. They are available at Amazon.com and other places.

Doesn't high school typically start at 16 in Japan?

First year high school students are 15 and 16 years old. But this is an escalator school including at least grade school, middle school, and high school. And so students from all three divisions are present, and that's why some are so young (including the MC is in middle school).

Now for my question: why am I even reading this manga!? Despite some of my credits pages, I'm not really into that kind of thing, yet I find myself reading it anyway. Regardless, I doubt I'll ever watch that live action movie.

Edit: The age of some of the girls (in the manga) is kind of disturbing, but since it's fiction, and I don't get the feeling of them being preyed on, I won't say much about it. I bet I'd have more to say about it in the movie, but I have no plans to see it.

The first chapter of Game was published almost two years after Sorry I'm Obsessed, but that has no effect at all on this discussion.

In Sorry I'm Obsessed, the name Morico was written exactly how you see it in the original publication (it wasn't in Japanese writing); Lililicious didn't touch it. In Game, Moriko's name is written モリコ; Morico is simply an alternate way of writing the name in the roman alphabet. A Japanese person would be somewhat likely to do that.

In other words, if Moriko is Morico, it's not a pseudonym, but her actual name. But it still makes so much sense that I rather think the two are supposed to be the same.

The people at Kawaii Scans surely already know this, since it is correct in chapters 2 and 3, but in chapter 1, the main character, Moriko, is misnamed as Chiriko. I'm saying this because it's relevant to my comment below.

Sorry for yet another post in a row but I think it's actually verified that these two are the same ones from I Await Your Reply. The long haired one is named Mio (see here) and if you look here you'll see the one who looks like Kuro refers to someone (presumably the long haired one you see earlier who is the only person you actually see her with) as Mio.

In Sorry I'm Obsessed page 20 (sequel to I Await Your Reply), Kuro (Yuuka) had been shopping with a Morico, who is likely her classmate from the post above it. Morico should be a pseudonym, but don't you think it's probably the Moriko from this story? With Takemiya-sensei's propensity for interlinked story lines, there's no doubt at all that those two are Kuro and Mio from I Await Your Reply.

This is kinda off-topic but since the site has no pming or anything like that I dunno how else to ask: What's your avatar from, Yuri Girl? The art style is really familiar but I can't place it at all.

It's from Love and Sex by Chi-Ran in Wildrose 2, this page. I altered the image a little bit.

There is another sympathetic trans portrayal, in this case a very young trans girl, Cotton Candy Love. It's a one-shot in Tsubomi 11, and I always have trouble remembering where it is, but I managed to find it. It's not the happiest story, but the trans girl is clearly a good person and not the one causing problems.

Don't know if you've uploaded them, but the mistakes are still there.

If a page is supposed to have been fixed, but you still get the error, try hitting the reload button in your browser. Your browser is probably loading the page from the cache on your hard drive and you have to force it to get a new copy. If that doesn't work, then I can't say, because I'm getting the corrected page (I had to hit reload to get the correction to show also). That's one thing I try to check before announcing a correction.

I had to be told this myself, the first time I turned in a correction and it didn't appear for me.

Thanks for the new chapter. There are two 'mistakes' that I saw. In chapter 4 on the 9th page in the last bubble "The two of them are if fact on an overseas.." the 'if' should be 'in', and the second one is in the same chapter on page 11 in the second thought bubble, the one with "Fujiwara-san really was a prince....No..A princes..." , at the final 'princes' there should be another 's'.

Proof that if you already "know" what something says, you can't see what it really says. Both are corrected and along with the corrected page 14 have been uploaded as version 2 (since this was released months ago).

As an aside, I actually caught an error just like this on 4.5 on my own within half an hour of uploading it. If I can do that, why can't I do it before uploading it?

It's not an extra chapter, it's actually part of chapter 4. As was explained in the note and in the credits and in previous comments, chapter 4 is 24 pages long, but only the first 14 pages were actually published in Hirari vol 14. Presumably, when Morinaga-sensei found out that Hirari was ending, she rushed to get the first part of the chapter into that volume to make sure it was published. At the pace she was going, it would have been in vol 15, except that volume will never exist.

Now that chapter 4 has come out as a web comic, months later, she has had time to finish the chapter, so all 24 pages are there.

I released the remaining pages as a new 4.5 because probably quite a few people would miss it if it was a re-release of chapter 4.

Don't know much Japanese, but that's how it works for Spanish, German, Icelandic, Polish, English, Arabic, and Korean. So I think it's safe to assume it works the same way for Japanese.

You need to use it carefully, and as you say, already know a lot about Japanese.

When I was reading the instructions for a game, I threw the file to Google Translate one section at a time and got good, if slightly strange results. But when I'm translating a manga, it's not very helpful. I will still refer to it sometimes in the process of something (against Procyon's advice), but it's attempts at a translation have been known to drive me to fits of laughter. As noted above, even on individual words, it can be a bit off, and occasionally, completely off. Especially if there are homonyms involved.

I find it most useful to pick up on short, standard phrases that I'm not familiar with. Except that in that case, it invariably hands you one ironclad meaning, when there may be many meanings depending on usage.

News! Chapter 4 was incomplete!

Chapter 4 has been released as a web comic, and it now has 10 extra pages! It has 24 pages rather than the 14 pages we saw previously. I would imagine that when Morinaga-sensei found out that Hirari was ending, she hurriedly submitted what she had ready to make sure it was published, even though it was not complete.

I'm dropping a hint; there will be progress of a sorts, finally!

I have moved this to the front of my to do list, and am working on it at this very moment. I may be releasing these 10 pages as a ch. 4.5, or I may re-release ch 4 with all 24 pages; I've not decided yet. This one is still officially on hiatus, but at the first sign of a chapter 5 (I'm very hopeful now) it will become ongoing again.

Yuri Hime and the newly founded Mebae are the only yuri magazines to speak of.

Unfortunately, a bit of Googling yielded this: http://www.comiczin.jp/info/comic/index.cgi?no=3448. It makes it very clear that the magazine is intended for a male demographic, and judging by the pictures on the page it's mostly ecchi/hentai that does not treat the female characters respectfully, a far cry from Hirari's generally more shoujo stuff. Even if it's yuri it doesn't look like the sort of thing I'd want to read. I guess there's nothing for it but to continue supporting Yuri Hime and yuri doujin...

I got a hold of Mabae vol 1, and it might not be as bad as it seems. There are 14 stories, and while it's true that many of the stories are exactly as described above (with images clearly intended to appeal mainly to dirty old men, apologies to the people who like that), there are a number of others that are much more subtle, and not all have erotic content. In addition, many of these look like the first chapters of series (though I didn't try to read them to be sure). Also, I didn't spot any images of genitalia anywhere in the book; it's not rated for adults only in Japan after all.

As a clincher, the final story in the volume is a reprint of "Blue Flame, Fragrant Clay" by Naruko Hanaharu, the cover story of Tsubomi vol. 16. I didn't immediately recognize any of the others, so I don't know if any of them are reprints or not.

So I really think some of the material might be worthwhile, and I hope somebody works on some of it soon.

Just thought I'd put my comment in. First, the father and husband mentioned in the first part of the story was just part of the role play; he doesn't exist. Second, as a previous poster noted, we don't know where the actual father is, whether he is present or not, whether she was ever married to him or not. As that previous poster said, the mother seems like she's not too much older than her daughter; perhaps this birth was the result of a youthful mistake in high school. Personally, the story feels to me like the unknown father is not present for whatever reason.

In summary, we can't say this women is married to anyone. And of course, we can't say she's not. The story doesn't tell us for certain.
