What I've found by following Wakabayashi Toshiya for several years, is that he has always called his webcomic Tsuredure Children, back when he first started posting it on his site, every single comiket that he's released doujins containing bonus chapters, he has always referred to it as Tsuredure. I mean, the website he made specifically to post them is http://tsuredurechildren.blog40.fc2.com/

The reason the online chapters no longer match up with the published ones (the first couple volumes match up almost exactly, outside of him redrawing the first several due to his style having changed so much) is because once he got picked up by a publisher, he has to get permission to post the new ones online.

(As an off-topic side note, I've wanted to do his other ongoing series for ages, but it would kill my cleaning staff)

Yeah but unfortunately it won't be cause in Japanese society people with social anxiety or other "communication disorders" are usually shunned or ignored so manga's dealing with these problems almost always fail to sell well. The only reason Watamote got an anime is cause 4Chan saved it cause they sympathized with the protagonist (cause let's be honest, if there is one group of real life people as cringe inducingly weird as Watamote, its the people on 4Chan)

I mean, a lot of really major moe archetypes basically stem from some sort of communication disorder on some level or another if you think about it. And then you've got series like suki tte ii na yo and morita-san wa mukuchi (or hell, hifumi from new game, yukiho from idolmaster, sae from amagami...).

Not to mention, Japan has been opening up more toward social and emotional disorders over the past several years.

It's easy to get mad at Kai, sure, but also consider her side of it: how hard it is on her, as well. She's certainly having an extremely painful time of it, too. As heartbreaking as it is for us to watch, imagine Kai's point of view, having to see something that heartbreaking about your best friend. Not to mention how hard it is to actually stick to it; just seeing Bocchi is going to make it so much more difficult to keep up her promise and not just go running back to her. That's why she acts so stubborn about it and keeps running any time she actually runs into Bocchi.

Katsuwo has commented that the next time he does these webcomics, he wants to do a series from Kai's point of view.

Yeah but completely ending the relationship like that is a little too drastic.

On the one hand, yeah, she's being a bit dramatic. But on the other hand, you can see how quick Bocchi is to give up if there is any chance of escape.

Plus her wording on the terms are a bit vague. To further explain, as far as I can tell, the cutting off of relations lasts until they graduate high school, and is in effect for as long as Bocchi isn't friends with the whole class. Meaning theoretically even if Bocchi completely gave up they could supposedly make up in high school.

Stipulating the entirety of the class was surely far too drastic, but that's also really one of the main ways to keep the manga going.

Yes, being the story leading up to school starting, they're going to be kind of bittersweet.

I don't think it's that she has the same condition; she was just under an extreme amount of pressure in that situation. Running into Bocchi was such a sudden surprise, and she was so expecting Bocchi to completely hate her that the encounter must have been nerve-wracking. Combine with the relief that Bocchi doesn't despise her and relief of how well Bocchi is actually doing, it's kind of understandable her body couldn't take the stress.

I don't know how apparent it was, but the idea was that she cursed in English during English class, and in classical Japanese during the classical Japanese class.

Okay, so, high schools in Japan get a single month of summer vacation (basically the entire month of August). They also tend to get a couple weeks around the new year and several weeks between school years (aka most of March). I don't know a detailed enough breakdown of holidays, school events, and school day length to compare total hours of instruction, though.

Japanese and American university systems are commonly contrasted; Japanese universities are absurdly difficult to get into, but once you get in, it is very easy to graduate, while American universities are fairly simple to get into but require a lot of work to graduate.

Japan's education system is consistently ranked near the top, while America's as of late tends to be fairly middle-ground (I recall it being around 30th).

I cannot speak for how stressed the students tend to be, because I haven't kept up-to-date in that area. I know it used to be a huge issue, but Japan has been starting to open up toward mental health issues in general over the past several years, so I don't know how much of an issue it is these days.

I don't think she does. It appears to be a standard one-room apartment, with attached kitchen and bathroom. And it seems about average-sized.
