I think one valid reason to have only a small number of fields would be the performance of the server. Adding a lot of work due to multiple exclusion tags would affect that.

I think a better solution would be to have a separate item that described each chapter's origin:

  • original published work
  • official derivative work, like in anthologies
  • original doujin (+ doujin that is derivative of original doujin)
  • fandom doujin

Each user would be able to set which of these they wanted to see (both permanent default setting, and per-search).

EDIT: Maybe even add a fifth category:

  • published work that was originally original doujin

to make classification easier.

EDIT2: Just came up with a way to implement this without drastic changes to the system: Add invisible tags like "original work", "doujin", "original doujin", "fandom doujin", that you could use in search or exclusion fields. (I first thought of "non-original doujin" as one of them, but pattern matching would match that even if you searched for "original doujin".)

The author Zyeno (じぇの) has

The original for the work ChikaDia Jealousy by them is at https://twitter.com/zyenokana/status/915597360587169793.

MASULAO MAXIMUM is listed as the author on Dynasty, with Nagi Kazekawa listed as an alias. In actual fact, the author is Kazekawa Nagi, and their circle is MASULAO MAXIMUM. Perhaps there is a reason why the works are listed under the circle name?

On doujinshi.org:
https://www.doujinshi.org/browse/author/4367/Kazekawa-Nagi/
https://www.doujinshi.org/browse/circle/2509/MASULAO-MAXIMUM/

"Kageneko." (current page on Dynasty: /authors/kageneko) is actually the circle name of the author "kuromitu".

The circle name is spelled with a period in the end, and the author's name is spelled all lowercase.

On doujinshi.org:

They also have a pixiv page in https://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=82284.

Give it a go now, it seems to be fixed at least in testing.

I can confirm it works. Thank you!

Another item:

According to the info page (26) (and the entry for the doujin on doujinshi.org), the story Nagisa and the Cheesecake of Love is co-authored by Owanta (like all other works by Gecchu currently on Dynasty).

Page 25 has two author's notes signed (in the translation) by Gecchu. I suspect one of them may actually be from Owanta.

Also, their circle is ゲッチュんち / Gecchunchi.

The 'download chapter' button of Shakunetsu ch22.1 still doesn't work.

Chrome says something like (translation mine - I don't have Chrome on English):

Can not connect to the site

The page in address https://dynasty-
scans.com/chapters/shakunetsu_no_takkyuu_musume_ch22_1/download may be temporarily
disabled or it may have moved to a new address.

This is the third time I've reported the problem here...

How does that all look now? I've left JAM under the original listing, as I'm not sure what else to do with it.

Perfect!

This was a difficult journey! Probably moreso than it had to be.
...
I've gone ahead and revised their page on the site, and will leave Natsu Matsuri as an alias, since there are surely some who know them by that name now. Again, thanks for pointing this one out!

Thanks for doing this, and for the continuing resource that is Dynasty - this is a great site and central to finding lots of (mostly good) yuri in English!

I thought it might be prudent to include a note to Natsu Matsuri that's it's not actually the author's name or alias, and that it's only included for completeness, so people who knew them by that old alias can still find them?

I'm quite OCD when adding manga to my personal collection. I have a complicated system of naming and sorting, and include a lot of information in the file names. To support this I need to research the items I add (main one being publication date, since I find doujins and one-shots should ideally be sorted according to author first, publication date (+convention/magazine) second). I then come across these discrepancies (or omissions).

As a side note, some story pages occasionally (like every three months or so), will report being in Welsh instead of English, so Chrome will ask if I'd like them to be translated. Just a small annoyance, but maybe something that could be fixed? Just include

<html lang="en">

on each page instead of a plain html declaration.

This just happened on Yaezakura Sympathy ch02.

Concerning the story "My Adorable Bitch", whose currently listed author is Sekishoku Vanilla.

The anthology Éclair has the story attributed to Kawanami Izumi, so I'd assume that is their real name.

According to doujinshi.org, there is an author "Kuma" / "くま" that has an "alt name" "Kawanami Izumi" / "川浪いずみ" (I assume real name), and is a member of Sekishoku Vanilla.

Since Dynasty uses authors' real names where available, maybe the entry for Sekishoku Vanilla should be changed to Kawanami Izumi, with a note for the circle name?

EDIT: Although, Sekishoku Vanilla also has another member, Unikata / うにかた, so care should be taken when/if these two authors should be separated, or both be listed for stories.

EDIT2: Out of the stories currently listed under Sekishoku Vanilla:

Author: Kuma

  • Growth Status
  • Moonlit Road (according to doujinshi.org)
  • Not Enough Air (Fukuramanakatta)
  • Sweet Temptation
  • Boundary Between Spring and Summer
  • Moriya Shrine’s Deer Offal Stew
  • I decided, that is love

Script/Story: Unikata, Art/Manga: Kuma

  • Sanae Kochiya Might Just Wear Bloomers
  • Lost All the Masks ~Searching Starting Now~

Author: Kawanami Izumi

  • My Adorable Bitch

EDIT3: Unsure about the authors of this:

  • JAM

The recent Minamoto Hisanari oneshots "Princess eat the apple!" and "Me and You and Her Sofa" are part of an anthology called "Yuridori midori" (or some such) / "ゆりどりみどり" (on Baka-Updates; on Amazon.co.jp).

One should probably expect any following Minamoto Hisanari works scanlated by Tabunne Scans to also be from this anthology. Stories have also been released in the order they appear in the book.

I found an odd thing:

There is an author listed by the name "Natsu Matsuri". They have two Mai-HiME doujins attributed to them: "Sleep" and "Summer Festival".

In a discussion for "Sleep", a user made the suggestion that the author name was in fact "Natsu Matsuri" (based on a style similarity), so I guess it wasn't put as such, or the story wasn't attributed them earlier (before Feb 2015)?

Translating the story name "Summer Festival" you get "夏祭り", romanized "Natsu Matsuri".

So as I see it, "Natsu Matsuri" or "Summer Festival" is only the story's title and the author is actually not stated (and isn't "Natsu Matsuri"). This fits with the theme of the story, so I find it likely. This is also the way the story is listed on Baka-Updates (that is, unknown author).

What do you think?

The "Download chapter" link for Shakunetsu no Takkyuu Musume ch22.1: 100% Agari doesn't work. Says something like the page may have moved or not be available currently (can't check the exact wording now because I seem to have exceeded my daily download limit of 8 - two of which are failed download attempts of this chapter).

Still doesn't work.

Browsers also have font (size) selections in the preferences, but altering it there will affect all sites - not just Dynasty. Might be worth a look if you have the problem on all sites.

If you don't mind the images also getting bigger, you can use page zoom in your browser.

Otherwise there are browser extensions that allow resizing fonts. (A quick look returned some results for Chrome, but I don't know whether they only work for individual pages or whether you can have a site-wide default zoom.)

As I understand it, you need to have the translation uploaded somewhere first (a file sharing service etc.). Then, while logged in to Dynasty, in the upper right corner, click on your name, and select "Upload Request". Fill in as much information as you can.

The one-shot "Lily, Marguerite, Baby's Breath" by Katakura Ako is the 4th story in the anthology "Un bouquet de fleurs pour vous".

Deciphering the contents page of Sengoku Hiroko's anthology "Anata dake hōseki" / "あなただけ宝石" on amazon.co.jp (Kindle version), I matched the listings to some Hirari one-shots present on Dynasty:

7 - Blooms in Summy Places
8 - Summer's Over But It's Still Hot
9 - White, and Pink
10 - Bunny♥Cafe
11 - A white white dress

(And the "Bunny Cafe" title actually has the heart in it. ♥)

I found a couple of chapters that don't have their chapter titles listed even though one is given in the manga:

Also, Nanoha ViVid is originally written with an uppercase "V" in the middle of the word.

EDIT: Wow, that was fast! A few minutes after posting the above, they were fixed.

GIFs as profile pictures

Wouldn't allowing GIFs open the can of worms that is animated GIFs? Those are super annoying. GIFs also have larger file size than the same image in JPEG.

Signatures

I like the clean look of the discussions. Everything in the thread (apart from the user data on the left) is either dates or posts. Signatures would add clutter - I believe people usually skip reading them anyways. The only practical use for a signature I can see on this site is to declare what scanlation group you belong to and what your role in it is. Maybe only allow signatures for those people, and only for that use? EDIT: Nevermind, just checked and realized that registered scanlator group representatives already have the group listed in their user info on the left. This means there is absolutely no use for a signature.

If signatures are implemented, I propose to only accept plain text (so they don't grab your attention with large or coloured text or images), limit the length, and render them in small and/or grey text below a horizontal line.

Allowing any kind of advertising - even scanlator group recruitment - in a signature would only guarantee the person's posts would always be off-topic (except in the recruitment thread).

I'd really like there to be a Disturbing/Twisted tag for stories like "Scandal" by Gotou Yuuki, so I'd know to avoid them. These sort of stories upset me - I can't be the only one? Even if only the more egregious instances were tagged, it'd help.

Another potential tag could be Mutilation - for the same reason.
