Stumbled across this a couple months ago...it was really awesome, I fell totally in love with it. At the time I did a bit of digging around for other info about it and found, first of all, that there was a translation of a later update by Medley from 2ch in this shoujoai.com thread.

And also from a thread on /u/ that Medley actually keeps a real life twitter (with occasional mentions of Huskey) here.

Finally I also discovered an apparently pretty classic Vocaloid song which was inspired and dedicated to them, Sweetiex2, as well as a subsequent NicoNico dance meme.

Altogether this entire story and its legacy is just an incredible thing.

Sol you are a blessing. Thank you so much for your research.

I read their story for the first time years(?) ago, but didn't doubt that it was truly based on a real-life couple; my second reread, however - alongside a backup of the original thread - occurred after I suddenly began wondering if it could have all just been the creative endeavour of a bored author. Ironically, it was my accidental discovery of Sweetiex2 that prompted this shadow; after the initial elation and heart-warmth of realizing that one of my favourite Vocaloid producers and composers had actually written and dedicated such an adorable song to them, I began to really worry about the authenticity of the account. Husky&Medley was one of my first introductions to yuri, and still my favourite, but years later, it's somehow become much more significant to me than just yuri; I guess seeing the honest support from allies made it that more important to me that it be real.

I haven't read many accounts of real-life same-sex relationships, so I can't draw up any comparisons, but the fact that random topic readers became allies and seriously gave Medley advice and help when she needed it, in a country that still doesn't officially recognize the LGBT world, gave me hope. Repression is more common than acceptance, and heterosexuality is still the only(?) norm, hence the "But...we're both girls" mindset that seems to irk so many North American readers; I find that in North America, LGBT issues are still only accepted in varying levels everywhere, but at least it's treated seriously, whereas I think in Japan, for example, "yuri" is mostly regarded as either fiction or a normal, passing adolescent phase that girls grow out of. Given a nonchalant attitude like that, I imagine it's much easier for them to grow up thinking that GL isn't real. Not all brush it off, but I feel that retaliatory reaction tends to spark rebellion against rigid norms more often than passive-aggressive resistance or normalizing reassurance.

I'm rather fatigued and am probably taking this more seriously than I should be, so I'll stop my rant here ;; I just wanted to thank the people involved with this work and those who contributed to the research.

Finally fixed this. Author tags have been merged, both versions have been kept (one has significantly better translation, the other has significantly better editing; both groups are dead anyway).

Thanks very much for pointing it out!

Is the Yurizoku scanlation (which I assumed had better editing) less naturalized than the Wings of Yuri one?

I'll just toss in that the creator seems to have forgotten that Fate is blonde and Nanoha is a redhead, neither of which are known for copious dark body hair. As a ginger myself (although I've gone more auburn in recent years I used to be quite red) I must register my offense at this slanderously inaccurate depiction!!

Fate likely wouldn't have black hair, but Nanoha being Japanese (supposedly) might allow for dark hair.

Really like her art, and really like this one-shot.

I got the impression that Nanzaki was a guy, from one of the afterwords, but I wouldn't mind if I were wrong.

Also I really love these two, so cute :)

Alice is my favourite. Love her with anyone.

+1♥

PC-Sakuya is so damn sexy with that suit-uniform♥
PC is more prolific with reserved, reticent characters/pairings (YuYuka, PatchyxKoa); although I was surprised seeing this given the MariAli they've done, it turned out to be a pleasant change of pace, like the MariSaku before.

Hm? Maybe not so much reserved characters as becoming cool under PC's pen...well either way I love it.

PC-Alice is best♥

So, just read Yuri Project's ch.5 release (on their home page). Kinda have to say that all the criticism of Mei (like calling her 'cold' and shit) is totally uncalled for. You know that the way Momokino came onto her partway through the chapter could pretty much be called rape/sexual assault, right. Same thing with Yuzu pushing her down at the end of chapter 4. Basically the reason Mei was frustrated/being standoffish with Yuzu was because she was tired of being looked at as primarily a sexual object (i.e. Yuzu was acting pretty much just like Momokino). It's pretty clear to me that Mei is open to being with Yuzu eventually, but not without overcoming her issues and establishing their emotional connection first.

As for why Mei is more open to Yuzu versus Momokino, part of it is the sincerity Yuzu has shown in trying to stand by her and be a good sister to her (settling the issue with the fiance/teacher and saving her grandfather, for example), and the other is that Mei realizes she is partly responsible for Yuzu's feelings thanks to her actions at the start of the series (kissing/assaulting Yuzu a couple times) herself. Momokino's clingy behaviour/sexual interest, by comparison, is purely self-interested.

Below is ch. 6 stuff since I went and read YuriProject's preview version after seeing the stuff in this thread:
About Mei's relationship with her father, maybe there was some significant reason for him taking off to random other countries 7 years ago, but I think Mei's issue is simply insecurity that he doesn't care about her since he's been away for so long. Because she's afraid to know what he thinks of her, she hasn't been reading his letters/otherwise trying to interact with him which would be the first step in improving their relationship in the first place.

Yuzu's impression that what Mei wants/needs is the emotional support of a family isn't quite wrong, but she's still jumping to the wrong conclusion that that means she and Mei can't be lovers. After all, in the end a genuine lover/partner is family too.

I really dig the pseudo-incest undertones in the series, lol. The kinky, sometimes nonsensically smutty progression of this series is great. I think that's the primary merit Yuzu's POV brings to the story, since other times she comes off as just way too insensitive and careless. Regardless, Mei and Yuzu have some seriously great chemistry, and that's what's keeping me reading and interested right now.

Sol+1!!

Kiyo and Yuu's eyes are so beautiful :D

*S: BLACKOUT IS FUN!!

So I gave into temptation and read some more Bash! on some Chinese manga/scanlation site! Citrus comments led me there and then I couldn't resist~ In the end, though, 100% JPN fluency is still my goal for the sake of enjoying manga in both its raw and English-translated forms :D

As expected, Kiyo and Yuu make me swoon<3 RAKU-GUN's art also becomes cuter in later chapters, which is a bonus.
Sakyo is such a cute puppy too<3

Although the material is basic enough for me to understand with only 50% Chinese fluency, the experience is simply not the same as when reading in English... not to mention the discrepancy in quality. Dynasty has my wholehearted appreciation for hosting so many high-quality free translations wrought by such talented scanlation groups. Many thanks to you and all the scanlators for all the hard work.

Sigh, I just had to vomit all my gushy feels here, sorry.

Nishi Uko? Instant favorite.

I know right?
I don't know, i think people's comments on her work are waaaaay more creepy than the work on its own xD i mean... flesh on the mannequin? Maybe you've seen too many horror movies/games? Hahaha.

Reading it I was half-expecting real creepiness, since one can never be too sure haha. Commentators minds are still way creepier though.

Well I just skipped to the last page of this forum to see if people are starting to feel disinterested in this manga.. Instead I got a huge argument about stupid crap -_-...

Anyway.. Am I the only one starting to drift away from this manga? It's starting to lose my interest. :/

On the contrary, my interest has intensified. I was largely apathetic to the first one or two chapters, but I am now genuinely interested in seeing where this goes.

Mm mystery~ how appetizing, even if it pains the palate!

I love how opaque Murakami is :D
