^ No. Yuri really is just a relatively niche genre so not enough support for anime beyond one season is expected.

Meanwhile, I can definitively call the case with GWitch homophobia because of Bandai Namco and the whole "open to interpretation" thing. The decisions they made with GQux and the double standards on display only strengthens that.

I have a bunch of mutuals and people I follow who watched this. From what I know, in the most simplest terms, it's two girls fighting over a guy. A "weird love triangle with a guy" to be exact.

The way they're treated as characters (supposed to be the female leads, mind you) is a huge slap on the face for anyone coming from GWitch. And of course because it's het, Machu and the guy gets to kiss. For an objectively bland romance to even get one, that pretty much seals it that there's literally no excuse that we didn't get a SuleMio kiss besides homophobia.

Notice how almost all the MachuNyaan stuff are in promotional materials and the ED while they apparently have no meaningful chemistry in the story itself (beyond ep1 at least???). It's pure yuri bait riding off the success of GWitch.

No wonder my mutuals (huge Gundam fans) seem hugely disinterested/disappointed with the "main trio" and mostly talk about other cool Gundam stuff and characters instead.

^ It's really not that grim. Over 70% of Japan's population supports marriage equality. Over 92% of the population is already covered by partnerships systems.

The majority of Japanese public supports marriage equality. It's just the conservative government stalling. Best case scenario is that same-sex marriage will finally be legal in Japan as early as next year.

^ Having been following the news of Japan's marriage equality, nope. Same-sex marriage in Japan, including Tokyo, is still illegal. There is the partnership system for same-sex couples which provides limited benefits.

What @juanelric linked though is Tokyo High Court's first decision about the constitutionality of same-sex marriage being illegal in Japan. That's 2nd of the six high court rulings. The last one will be the second Tokyo High Court ruling on November.

After that is the Supreme Court ruling which will be as early as next year. Best case scenario is that the court declares the ban unconstitutional, in which the Diet must legalize same-sex marriage.

By the way, I brought up BoNiji because that scene in Episode 1 of Mako and Kurea outside the restaurant at night lowkey reminds me of a similar-looking BoNiji scene. That and personality-wise, they kinda check out.

Nana though for me is more of a mix of Bocchi and Kita depending on whether she knows you or not.

@Donkey Kong

They’re just edgelords lol

And more reason why they shouldn't given more attention than we already have.

yet you’re implying they’re racist cuz of their ethnicity

You missed the part where it's my own observation based on the comics Khyle and Centurii posted. Khyle got banned on German Twitter for posting a "joke" art about Auschwitz on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, that among his many infamous works. Centurii repeatedly posted comics about the N-word.

This is not at all surprising to me given how Philippines has a severe lack of education on the gravity of many atrocities in history. This is not my observation alone, I'm pretty much echoing the same sentiment from an r/Philippines post about Khyle's ban. I also experienced this very ignorance first hand from the people around me offline and online. Casual racism is very rampart here, which is why it's so easy for teenage boys my age especially to get sucked into American culture war RW slop.

Like many others, I had to unlearn all the casual racism I was influenced to growing up. Through the internet, I got to learn many different cultures and interact with people from so many backgrounds. Which is why it's very unfortunate that the internet also pulled people my age into a completely different direction. You have no idea how many people I know in college who think that saying the N-word is funny, on top of all the casual racism. That's what Centurii's comics about it remind me of and learning that they're also Filipino made me think "Ahhh, that makes even more sense now. They're just like that boy in my class".

@Dark_Tzitzimine I'm not gonna deny your claim because I'm sure there are Mexican historians who disagrees with you.

I'd say though that it's totally not the case at all with Spanish colonization of the Philippines. Our history paints a very grim picture of how indigenous peoples and especially women here were treated by the Spanish. Notice how Philippines is not a Spanish-speaking country unlike others. It's because of how lowly we "indios" were treated that only the lucky privileged few got proper education.

That's why to us Filipinos whose brains weren't fucked by American culture war slop, Centurii's comic comes off as disgusting and offensive.

^ "Jokes" about rape and oppression is 'fun, interesting and easily digestible' now apparently. Jesus Christ.

I love learning about history myself and there's plenty of YouTube channels I watch for that. Look how I never had to turn to artists like Centurii (who downplays colonization and rape and thinks saying the N-word is funny) to learn about history. You're seriously deliberately misinforming yourself on history if these kinds of artists are what you look to for source.

Speaking of Khyle, both him and Centurii are Filipino. Being also one myself, I can tell that they came from the recent breed of teenage boys who grew up on American culture war RW slop online and think that saying the N-word is funny. I know because I almost fell down that same pipeline myself but had to see boys my age around me who did.

It's not surprising really, Filipinos never experienced living with black people and other oppressed folks. For us, it's either all in the distant past (our history of colonization) or far away from us (in western melting pot countries). So when bigots online package racism inside "jokes" and "dark humor", we eat it all up without much thought. And that's not even mentioning how racist we can be towards black people and other nationalities to begin with, with slurs and all.

Considering all that cultural context and certain stuff Centurii posts... I simply advise DS to steer clear from their stuff. Seriously, it's really not worth it giving them any more attention.

@ObsessiveFingerLicker Apparently, most of that episode was written by the author themselves. They seem to be pretty involved with the anime production from what I've seen.

@Bielna But the thing is: Most of the yuri in this show doesn't involve characters who just die. It's concentrated within the main non-dying very gay cast.

Yeah... a show about assassins will have deaths. That's already given. I don't know what to say if you really can't get past that.

It's not even that I "love murder as running gag" because the show deliberately presents it in a way that you won't have any time to actually care about (most of) the characters being killed. As for the characters that it did get you to care about, it's done for a reason. Plenty of details about that particular group of ninja girls eventually became relevant later on. Let's just say their screentime weren't wasted at all because they got way a lot more of it.

And again, it's not pure comedy either. One of those two particular deaths was played straight with zero humor, highlighting the many forms of ugliness in human society. The whole show is this, under the veneer of comedy is packed with modern social commentary. The disregard of human life is indeed a thing in the world of NinKoro and well, it is the same world where a whole system of assassins just exists after all.

Also, I don't get your focus on them being gay. Among the deaths so far, there weren't much of them beyond that group and Kuro's yandere ex. Most of them were individual ninjas chasing to kill Satoko or Konoha. So it's not like they're the main source of gayness in the show, the whole thing is yuri. The core non-dying cast are very much gay themselves with plenty of yuri moments to show.

^ Indeed. Hope we get more AsuRokka crumbs somehow. What Asuka said "What business do you have with MY Rokka?" is still in my mind to this day.
