We cannot predict exactly how gay someone is, only the probabilities.

I was one of the starters of this discussion, sorry about that... My point was influenced by works like Shinozaki San, Valkyrie drive and yuru yuri and this thread was like my boiling point because they bait is so strong is ridiculous that someone can come and say "this isn't yuri".

Well, I'm not saying that this can in no way ever be considered yuri. Just that, since it wasn't really created for the purpose of being a yuri story, taking it as representative of yuri in general and discussing yuri as a genre based on it doesn't really make sense.

Sure, they're not overtly gay. But they're also not overtly straight. So let's call it Schrodinger's Homosexuality.

All I am saying is that looking at this (and other titles of its like) and complaining about yuri as a genre because of it is kind of pointless, as they're not sold as being yuri manga. They're sold as moe slice of life, and any yuri elements that happen to be present are played up pretty much entirely as fan service or a gag. If you or someone else wants to label them yuri, you're free to, but going on to use it as a general example of yuri as a genre being this or that is moot because you're the one who labeled it yuri.

Like labeling, say, to-love-ru as an h-manga and commenting on the nature of h-manga in general based on to-love-ru.

I am sure there are plenty of other appropriate examples you could find if you want to complain about Japan sucking at the yuri genre. But it looks silly when you point at things that were never seriously meant to be yuri to begin with as your example.

Yeah, but on the other hand, as I mentioned, most of the "softer" all-male cast stuff is printed in shounen magazines. There aren't separate magazines specifically dedicated to that type of thing, so the genre hasn't really had the chance to expand to the point where it starts including more overt elements. When you're either getting it from shounen magazines or from outright boy's love magazines, there's really not much chance for in between.

And yes, in Japan, who the publisher is alone has a huge effect on the type and direction of the story, as well as how the series is marketed and viewed by people. Which is why rather than by genre, they sell manga by publisher. Which can be a real bitch when you're trying to find a specific title in a store.

But if they were guys it would be full, solid and undoubtedly marked as yaoi... And yeah, girls can get more intimate with their friends unlike boys but they're KISSING and groping and who knows what comes next! it should be marked as yuri like Valkyrie drive (good example in fact) where there's a reason for them to kiss or even have sex but if they don't love each other, is not yuri? come on if they were straight, forcing them to become weapons would be rape

Not necessarily. In fact, a lot of the series girls get the most worked up over don't actually contain any explicit homosexuality: Haikyuu, Kuroko no Basketball, Prince of Tennis, Free.

Hell, far from being yaoi, those series are in shounen magazines.

Basically, shounen sports is to girls what moe slice of life is to guys.

Only the fuckin yuri genre can have two people kissing and blushing at each other while still leaving the status of their relationship an absolute mystery until (and sometimes even past) the very end...

What's all the "friend" stuff? lol

Well, it's not marketed as a yuri manga, for one. Kirara is marketed as cute/moe and slice of life. That genre just tends to feature primarily girls getting along really well, so people will read yuri vibes into it.

Also, if you want something with a bit more of a serious relationship, someone help me do Kirarin Ryou. Though it's really more the side characters that are.

Also, was it just me or did Ichinose's personality COMPLETELY change the moment they first swapped bodies (and yes, I'm aware they swapped bodies but I mean her personality changed once she entered Nikaido's. She seemed much more calm, quiet, and serious during the color pages at the start.

Something you should realize about volume releases for manga is that they always want to include some color pages at the start, because that is where it is the most convenient to put them in. However, not all series get a color spread for their first chapter in the magazine. So the author goes back and draws a few pages to insert before the first chapter. This is why the connection between the color pages and the first black and white ones can seem really awkward or slightly repetitive. Because the author has to figure out a way to put some stuff before the actual opening introduction.

That is happening here.

Most stuff I could list is, well, likely not translated.

Yun does monster design. And she seems to really enjoy doing monster design. It is difficult to imagine her hopping over to chief character design.

I know, but I'm just terrible at getting motivated >.<

Here's your motivation.

I'm pretty sure the official English version of that line was "they're like ants", which, granted, has much less impact and vileness in it.

As of volume 2,

The little sister has outright stated she wants to have sex with Sayuri. There's also some hinting at more serious stuff behind why she came (and why Sayuri sees her as an angel.)

Though the main plot arc at the moment is about a boyish side character who girls idolize as a "prince". She has a complex about other girls seeing her undressing after hearing a comment from one girl about how seeing that "broke the illusion of her being a prince because if drove home the realization that she's actually a girl." Meanwhile, there's another girl who mistook her for a boy and fell in love at first sight, but starts despising her after finding out she was a girl. But now she's starting to develop real feelings toward her even knowing she's a girl.

It's pretty good stuff. I don't bother following most magazines so I can't wait for volume 3 next spring.

I've been reading a series called Sayrui-san no Imouto wa Tenshi (Sayuri-san's Little Sister is an Angel) by Itou Hachi, but there doesn't seem to be any translations of it.

It's got some pretty complex and serious relationships.

As a note, store exclusives in Japan are always special goods, like posters, figures, or the aforementioned drama CD. It's never store-exclusive DLC. While there are games that have limited edition DLC, it comes with all first edition copies, regardless of where you purchase.

I say, but no doubt someone will come up with whatever singular counterexample might exist.

The author of YKK has a new manga series that started last year.

How about yuri manga that aren't even being translated? I could probably name a few of those.

It also sounds vaguely similar to a yuuji/kouji comic, but I kind of doubt that's it. Just in case, though:

I have no idea what the author's been doing since the series ended, outside of consistently releasing Imas CG Rina/Natsuki doujins every comiket and posting live twitter reactions to and gay comic strips about Aikatsu and PriPara.

I can like it if it's done well, but in many cases it's just an excuse to be violent or to prevent any sort of actual development which just turns obnoxious.

I feel like his editors are also involved with him not resolving anything in the plot because they don't want to let him end the story.

joined May 23, 2015

I'll be completely honest: I've never really read the comic, and I've basically stopped watching the series. I just watch the yearly movies since they provide just as much actual plot advancement (aka zero) but with better production and more expansive stories.

Honestly in recent years she's surpassed the main heroine Ran in popularity and more people seem to want Haibara to be the one to end up with Conan.

I'm... actually one of those. Hahaha...
I think Conan and Ai have a better dynamic than Shinichi and Ran.

Clearly. Ran's character has been reduced to a one-dimensional stereotype, and her relationship with Shinichi doesn't do anything. Meanwhile Haibara has a depth and her dynamic with Shinichi actually shows growth.

So there was literally no information other "there's gonna be an anime" in this issue. I suspect it won't be winter, but spring season, based on how long before airing they normally announce anime projects. Also because that is right when volume 3 should be going on sale.
