100% this. To me the term "trap" is, as you said in a comment before: "To me it means a boy who looks like a girl and likes to cross-dress because he enjoys people mistaking him for a girl". That is what "trap" means to me..I've never thought about it as anything bad.

Trans girls get a hell of a lot of splash damage from the word, and the joke that it represents.

I'm agreeing to certain extent. I never thought about trap term as negative. To me it means boy who looks like girl and likes to cross-dress because he enjoys people mistaking him for girl so he can troll people. Just trap=transvestite or something. If use towards true transgender person then yes, but idea itself is neutral to me as guy in question doesn't dislike it.
