Btw, if anyone is interested in what the obi for all the other vols have said so far, here r more rough TLs:

Vol 1: "The one who loves me, my senpai"
Vol 2: "Love has yet to come to me" (or "love has yet to sprout within me" for a less as literal TL)
Vol 3:

Actually, it's "I want to stay like this. I mean it."

^ I think it is Yuu's perspective. She's calling Touko selfish, but also recognizes that she is, too, or at least thinks her desire at the end of chap 22 is (since she believes that Touko doesn't want to be changed in the first place)

Raw 4 this month's special chap is up: https://tieba.baidu.com/p/5134543787

Also, here's a preview for vol 4's cover:

Rough TL of possibly the obi's phrase: "We're selfish. Both you & me." (Rlly love the line breaks in the original Jap which leaves a break in between "you" & "& me")

But there's loads of "I won't be able to hold your hand anymore!" and "I didn't cherish our pure high school love!" There's this weird bittersweetness and ambiguity and open-endedness to it. We know what almost certainly is supposed to happen in the future, but it's tinged with this sadness. I mean, it didn't do what some yuri manga do and outright say "She kept her wonderful memories in her heart and cherished them forever even after she married a man and had a normal life," and there's nothing but the idea they WILL end up together, but it's playing on the same kinds of emotional beats.

Sure, there r some bittersweet "open-ended" lines, but Sasameki Koto actually builds its characters & their relationship well enough that it leaves little room for doubt to how it will end, unlike this series, which if it weren't 4 the extra strips showing their adult life, God knows if Kotooka & Washio ever got together (their chemistry is nonexistent) or if Tsukasa's feeling was just a phase all along.

So far, a bit cringey & cheesy 4 me. The sudden marriage proposal was pretty cute tho. Will be waiting 4 Mochi to do her miracles & make this great somehow like always. Hopefully this won't be on hiatus 4 too long.

This chapter shows that, once again, this mangaka is an immensely talented writer who just couldn't quite get their story told in less chapters than they had planned.

I mean, sure, but part of being a good writer is knowing how to plan your story so that it's presented concisely and effectively. The fact that they couldn't wrap things up within 23 (huge, 50 page) chapters doesn't exactly speak well of their talent, to be honest. Like, how long did they want this story to be, exactly? Especially given that I got tired and felt like the story was going in circles back in chapter eight, and I'm still not sure that things have significantly changed since then.

Maybe the author had some notion that they were going to write a 30-volume saga on the scale of Kimi ni Todoke or Skip Beat or whatever, but I just can't see that ever happening with this story as it's been written, axe or no axe.

^ This. Pretty much. It's good that they try to thoroughly flesh out the characters' thoughts and emotions, but that should be accompanied with substantial developments in the plot, the characters, & their relationships as well. The BL part of this series did that & that's why it is more engaging to read. The yuri was pretty much stomping at the same place the entire time. Instead of sorting out the girls' feelings, they were just introducing more secretceptions between them. & by the end of 23 long chapters, their feelings for each other and relationships w/ one another only come off as shallow rather than anything remotely engaging.

That was cute. The bonus chapter. Would be nice if there's a Subaru x Asakura spinoff where we see them getting together for real. But that won't happen.

CONVERT TO HOMUISM NOW YOU FILTHY HERETIC!

You're the only heretic here, not accepting Madoka as the one true savior.

Homura is the true god, you filthy ningen.

Homura is the biggest heretic of all. She knows it so well that she keeps punishing herself. Forsake your false goddess and accept Madoka's gentle embrace in your heart.

Kumaria is the true god. All others are fake and you are all heretics. Repent and be converted to the true yuri religion.

This manga would've been so much better if it had had none of the yuri love triangle & just focused on the yaoi in the first place (tho I most likely wouldn't have started on it if that was the case). Pleasant art with some nice visual storytelling & panelling. I always like introspective stories that explore the inner workings of the characters, so if this hadn't juggled more than it could handle, jumping around multiple characters and conflicts all at the same time, I would've enjoyed it better.

Nice chap for S.S. BL. If this is their last chapter (since there're only 2 left & my guess is that the yuri triangle needs those), I don't mind this as a resolution to their story too much.

It's so, SO good how there's this stress on relationships being an equal, loving partnership, and I'm so glad that Yuu has finally realized this to be the case and is doing something about it. Also, her doing something about it just shows that she WANTS this relationship to work. She WANTS to keep being with Touko, and she wants the BOTH of them to be happy. She has a strong sense of self-respect (that, in my opinion, a lot of shoujo and yuri protagonists don't have) and love for another person that it's making me feel so many fluffy things <3

Yup yup yup. Up until now, their relationship has never been between equals & has always existed in conditions (so it's like a contract between the 2).

In the beginning, Touko was the one who (kinda) chased after Yuu when she couldn't feel anything for her so Yuu was the one who had more power in the relationship. Eventually, Yuu starts to develop feelings for Touko, but Touko doesn't want that, so Touko is now the one with more power in the relationship. Ch 3 & 10 are different points in the establishment of their relationship contract that reflect these relationship dynamics, respectively.

Exactly, and I think this is why Yuu is the better match for Touko. Yes, Sayaka does understand how Touko works and what her motivations are and gives her privacy, but this is ultimately not very healthy for Touko because it just perpetuates her cycle of self-loathing and her self-esteem issues. And it doesn't help that Sayaka is so caught up in her own jealousy and "I've known Touko longer than Yuu has" attitude that it prevents her from really doing anything to help Touko.

Yuu, on the other hand, eventually understands just how unhealthy Touko's motivations and self-esteem issues are and is doing something about it. Sure, it may not be something that Touko wants and she's doing it without really talking to Touko first, but she's doing it because she loves Touko (whether she realizes it or not) enough to do that. She doesn't want Touko to continue hating and punishing herself, and she'll be the "bad guy" if it means Touko has a chance for a happier life. Sayaka cares about Touko, but she's ultimately a little more selfish than Yuu.

Sayaka & Yuu are almost two sides of the same coin. They both know about Touko's situation and both have to hide their feelings & remain at a certain distance from her in order to stay by her side. But unlike Yuu, Sayaka is comfortable with the distance. It's good to compare last chapter with this latest one. While Sayaka initiated the conversation and even got Touko to talk about her worry with her, that confrontation just ended without ever going anywhere far, unlike Yuu's confrontation this chapter, which was really up close and personal. "I'm fine with you knowing," & that's good enough for Sayaka. She's fine with just knowing, unlike Yuu who decided that Touko shouldn't remain in her self-destructive behavior. Always the first one to learn, never the first to take action.
