Something to do with her mother and either her mother's mother or her father's mother. I'm assuming the father's mother. Might have been violence towards her mother. My gaydar spiked when the flashback had her telling a female teacher she was happy because the female teacher protected her and her mother. So maybe a gay relationship for the mother that ended violently.

Someone important to Guk-Hwa tried to kill their self. Or there was a very violent and bloody scene in which she walked in on.

Don't see why that means it can't be a bear representing an actual girl. Clearly she doesn't act like a literal bear, but an awkward girl instead. Only her visual representation is a bear, which easily reads as "big, strong but maybe a bit lumbering".

Perhaps it is how the Japanese girl sees a foreign girl (Maybe scandanavian, canadian, or russian?)

So mom is going to start questioning her feelings for her daughter at the same time that mysterious woman will show up. Still could go either way. As a fan of cute things, I want the mom and daughter to get together. As a realistic human, I know that it's a possibility they won't because well, they're parent and child.
