It WOULD be nice if Komaki gave hints here and there that Hishikawa is starting to grow on her in a potentially romantic way. It's not much of a ''will they or won't they'' if one of the parties involved only sorta tolerates the other at best (^^) They have fun interactions and all but I can't help but want a bit more out of it.
Yeah, there’s a thin and pretty vague line in a high-concept (medium-high anyway) comedy manga between, “Look, this is just how this one works” and, “This doesn’t make a lot of sense even in the terms it sets up.”
I haven’t read the whole thing in a while, but as I recall, Hishikawa started out waaay over the top in her attempts to use money to buy her way into a (primarily lewd) relationship with Komaki, who in turn sent out signals that if Hishikawa would just act more like a normal person a closer relationship was theoretically possible. And, with help and advice from others, that’s sort of what Hishikawa has done, (or maybe partially successfully tried to do).
But the fact that Komaki appears so oblivious to what Hishikawa is doing and feeling makes it seem like she’s completely unaware of any romantic overtones to their connection at all. For instance, it’s as if Komaki has never even heard of the “feeding each other a taste” trope, so she can’t even conceive of what Hishikawa wants from her.
I guess “this is just how this one works” will have to do, at least for now.
Funny part, Komaki is even more abnormal than Hishikawa bc she doesnt even have a cellphone so her main source of knowledge as a teen is not present :v hence her obliviousness seems to be bc of that... Oh well this was funny while it lasted but Hishikawa was doomed from the start it seems
I'm not too sure what the point of the backstory is, since it sure doesn't make them sympathetic. I wouldn't reject a plot where traumatized kids with superpowers have decided to take revenge through violence and we're expected to empathize with them, but after showing that they actually find killing people fun in chapter 51, I don't think that was the purpose.
Maybe it's just to show that even though they like killing, this didn't come out of nowhere and they had reasons to turn out like this? That addition would make sense, I guess.
I just hope I'm not wrong. If this all turn out into a "they were victims first, let's support them and just forget about how happy they were about killing before", I'd find this pretty annoying.
The purpose of a backstory is never to justify, but to understand how someone/something came to be, this is just explaining that they werent evil from the beginning or that even if they had a predisposition, what happened to them was just a push to become

Like her aunt said, its just a year, to obtain something you must sacrifice something even if it sucks to do it, specially if you actually want a stable job that requires education for it bc its clear they want stable income... yeah but the page on which it is revealed she's in high school puts her in the first year, so she would have to have been held back 4 times to be 19
I doubt she's actually that old, considering it's been established that the school she goes to, Seirin Academy, has considerably stricter academic standards than the school most of the cast goes to. If she flunked multiple grades in the past I doubt she would have been able to get in.
It's probably just a situation where she needs to hide her age for some reason, or people just assume she's older than she actually is and she just goes along with it.

But that doesn't hold true for 99% of interactions. Your coworkers, your customers, your classmates, and any other strangers in your life have no right to know that information about you. Acting like this is a deception when they aren't dating is to presume ownership of that aspect of another person's privacy. Just as it would be xenophobic to demand to know where someone was born before interacting with them, and racist to demand to know the color of their skin, it would be sexist/transphobic to demand the same for their gender.
