You know, I'm kinda in the same spot as Mikasa atm, so I don't think this was too dark. It could have been so much worse and at the end of the day they'll both move on and fin happiness. It's a bit sad but the personal similarities I feel from it make it bittersweet, hopeful even.

If you're a pessimist like me that dark part probably is the ending. Not everyone gets a second shot and that could have been her only chance at happiness. The world isn't that fair.

I don't think it was rejection as much as the senpai not noticing her own feelings or making the decision too fast. That's what it seemed like to me when she came back near the end. It happens all too often IRL and even though it pulled my heart strings I like that it's not always just a happy perfect world ending.

Or maybe this is simply what it says at surface level, that they're both so overcome by their feelings that it all broils to its extreme point, and it just all evaporates from their bodies at once.

I think it's when you first fall in love with someone and it gets so bad to the point that it's scary. You don't know how sensitive/dependant you've become and you know you can lose control of your emotions at any moment. It might sound strange to someone that hasn't had it happen to them before but it's totally realistic.
