For the math question put forward on page 003:

Character 1 will have 8 distinct pairings. Character 2 will have 7 that don't involve character 1, and so on. I usually don't solve math problems on my own because I'm lazy, so I use https://plainmath.net/secondary/calculus-and-analysis/calculus-2 to quickly find an answer to any calculus 2 practice problems. So we're looking at adding a range from 8-1. The sum or a range is equal to the average of a range times it's length (for mental math, highest plus lowest divided by 2 is probably easier to think about). (1+8)*8/2 = 9*4 = 36

Recently finished reading this story - quite interesting. It's funny that you decided to find the answer to this math problem :D
