WWII era Japan was surprisingly progressive, it seems

Also, it's a very rare and pleasant thing to see old couples in these stories. They should probably have a tag.

Ahahaha! Love it!

I feel like, in the last panel, that the granddaughter is actually commenting on how her other grandmother/the senpai was beautiful, and the grandma she's currently talking to adds that she/senpai is still beautiful now.
My bad if it isnt so, it just seems kinda odd that they're talking about the other grandmother/the senpai, and the granddaughter's reaction is to comment on the kouhai-grandmother's beauty

^Now that you mention it, it does seem a little funny. Either it's a translation error
( supposed to be "SHE'S beautiful now!"), or the younger grandma got confused and assumed the granddaughter was talking about her instead of her partner

The cutest thing I seen TODAY! ~♡

^Indeed it's quite vague. The girl calls her Grandma we see in the first panels Obaa-chan (granny), and in the last panel the Grandma also uses "This senpai is your other Obaa-chan". To which the girl replies, "Really!? Obaa-chan was such a beauty, right?!", and the Grandma answers, "Now, ... also beautiful", referring to the same person the girl was calling beautiful. My guess is they are talking about the other granny :)

WWII era Japan was surprisingly progressive, it seems

A slightly more likely option is that they got back together after their husbands died(a prerequisite for having kids in the pre-modern era, which is a prerequisite for grandchildren by definition), having stayed close enough the entire time that their kids ended up marrying each other. So the kid could easily be thinking maternal vs paternal grandmother, without necessarily realizing what's going on.

Sorry to throw a cold bucket of water around, but my analysis switch got flipped.
