@Cre58a Well I seem to remember by the end they were both fine with girl form existing at least and considered it a part of ranam no longer to try getting rid of.
There's a fantastic long fanfic where Ranma decides to get out of the mad cycle of fights his life was by staying in female form permenantly- to the point of insisting he IS a girl and always had been, and getting the girls to all help with it- so Akane has to get used to dating girl ranma etc.
I forget its name.. wonder if its still on my hdd somewhere? I fancy reading it now lol.

I didn't like Akane Tendo 20 years ago and now im old and grumpy but i still don't like her now. Shampoo is so so underrated.

^Akane gets a lot better in the much later chapters- but I agree she was fairly annoying- shampoo was even worse though imo.

It's weird. Ranma 1/2 has hundreds of fan fiction stories out there, but I saw almost no pure yuri Akane and Ranma pairings. It made me sad..

@Cre58a Actually, Rumiko-sensei had the show planned as a lesbian romcom at first, with pretty much everyone being as they are in the final result (that's is why Ranma as a girl is often more proactive and vocal than male Ranma). Producers said no, so she made the the whole sex-change by water bit as a middle finger to them.

I fell in love with ranma's concept the second I saw it. Being able to change your gender easier than you can change your clothes seems fun. I made a roleplaying character, for a comedic superhero campaign, based on ranma. He/she quickly became my favorite character of all time.

^ Well, surely if a girl is with with a person who is entirely female, it's yuri- even IF they were origionaly a guy and are sex changed due to magic? The fact Ranma's origional form is male wouldnt really effect another womans desire to sleep with them when female for example would it? They could always just only be intimate in male form- its not like its hard to change over.. But if Akane or whoever are fine being intimate in female form - then they are surely fine with yuri.
Its a bit less clear if it has to be called yuri since ranma can switch so easily and often between- I guess it depends how much and to what extent a female character is with Ranma in female form as opposed to the male version.
I've read fan fics where its almost entirely / ALL, female Ranma with Akane- thats got to be yuri.
You can ofcourse have Het or Yaoi Ranma too. Its odd there wasnt more yuri Ranma tho tbh- I liked him a lot better as a girl.

If I'm not wrong, I remember in my childhood a episode where Ranma forgets that he is really a boy or something like that and he acts very friendly to Akane as a girl and it was very cute.
Also I remember, for some reason, he always was going to buy ice cream in his female form

(WEP spoiler) Due to today's Wonder Egg Priority ep10 I came to the same question too, about the label(s) for the relationship in regards to the dissonance between body and mind (either by genderbending magic, or simply being trans). (Personally in my mind I just put it all in the same general box "relationships between 2 humans", but for communications and discussions, I might need a label for it.) When a (cis) straight girl knowingly likes a trans person (anatomically female body, with the mind of a man, or vice versa), the relationship should be labeled het or gay? Or it needs both tags?

as for tags I would guess if fanart of the ship were to appear here it would get the transgender tag rather than the yuri one

The image board isnt the place for a long discussion but to give 1 fairly short answer- for a tag on a board I'd guess it would either get a transgender tag or be labled purely on looks- i.e yuri in your wep example. I dont think you can label it het- i dont even think some kinda transgender tag is even needed in all those cases. From the perspective of the mind in the opposite gender body- it might seem a kinda strange het still- or it might not- if they were becoming/already that gender mentally too- like in 'girl meets girl'. That is for sure yuri.
From the perspective of the other person- I cant see why they could accept the relationship just based on what body the mind inside came from- unless they were actually already actually Bi / gay and didnt know.- because everything about the experience perceptualy would be yuri/gay still. Its like telling a vegan they can eat a cow because it used to be grass.

^Acording to the wiki at least its not true- she actually wanted a full male MC after having a female MC in her previous series (Lum) but was worried she wouldnt be able to write a male well- so made him half female. Origionaly he would change when punched but she went with water.
