I saw aangst and I was really hesitant. Glad I gave it a try. Doesn't even feel aangst-y tbh.

I'm guessing the it was one of those Japanese conventions that doesn't carry over to English very well, and the translator was going for a "metaphorically stabbed in the heart"-type deal.

Glad I didn't let the aaaangst tag stop me from reading this. Yeah, it's a story that is about angst but at least it doesn't end that way.

And yes, "stab" is a pretty common SFX in manga, usually coupled with a word cloud stabbing the person for extra effect.

SFX are among the toughest parts of translating, since many of them don't translate into words. I generally just translate their meaning, and leave it to Malibu to come up with an English equivalent that doesn't sound completely retarded, lol.

Also, SFX are definitely the worst. Often they are untranslatable - the original "onomatopoiea" is meaningless in English, the intended meaning has no English SFX equivalent, and putting a whole phrase or sentence in would be unfaithful to the original.

Personally I think "Stab" works well, since it conveys a sudden, piercing pain, of the kind that might result from an emotional shock, and is common in English figurative language about emotion and betrayal.

Yes, especially Sister*Sister. The first was bittersweet, but 'A Love Awakened by a Kiss' (Awoken?) was cute with a slight bit of angst. Was never sure why "in secret..." followed that one, but ah well.

I thought it was pretty good though I wouldn't be surprised if some said this story has been told plenty of times already. Even if I can't personally remember too many specific examples myself.
