HIKAGE VS YURIKA. WHO WILL WIN?

I get it now, she's basically an older Bocchi.
Having your childhood friend said "I don't want to be friends" turns you into a chick magnet, apparently.

I think Yurika and Bocchi had a love child. The result: Hikage

This might sound stupid, but who are Yurika and Bocchi?

The protagonists of Yurika's Campus Life and It's Not My Fault That I'm Not Popular!, respectively.

(Ugh) What is it about vampires. They are suppose to be, quite literally, blood thirsty monsters, preying upon humanity. The evil creatures, that lurk in the night. Why does everybody make them into romantic heartthrobs, that make young girls gush their tighty whiteys? Oh well at least this vampire is working for team yuri. and she doesn't sparkle.

Vampires have been symbols of repressed sexuality at least since the Victorian era (see: Carmilla).

I always blamed Bram Stokes for turning vampires into sauve seductors.

Well, Carmilla predated Dracula by 25 years... So Stoker was just following established trends. :-)

I dunno why, but Kuroba seems to be on a roll recently -- the absurdity has been through the roof, and I've been cracking up throughout most of the latest couple chapters. :D

What's up with the Yandere Appreciation Day? :D

And have her characters been getting more . . . ahem, busty lately?

Yup, definitely noticed that, too.

this is pretty tame yandere compared to others I've seen. I liked it

Her thought processes are shown to be pretty much the same as any yandere. She's only pretty "tame" for a yandere in practice because of one thing: She has a huge amount of self-restraint, something that is typically very low or even non-existent in your average yandere.

It's not just self-restraint, but also self-reflection. On page 7, she admits to "becoming strange", meaning that she realizes that her urges to hurt her partner are not healthy, whereas your run-on-the-mill yanderes never see that there is something wrong with their methods of securing their relationship.

Are they still not fucking? Is that what's going on?

I really dig Yuki's '80s Spaceship Captain persona, even if it's just an image others have. We don't have nearly enough of those in manga these days anymore....

"Don't brag about thy normie life." I am glad I got to see this phrase actually used, even if it's just once in my lifetime.

Superhero Yuri is life.

As other people have pointed out, this story just drives home the importance of asking and telling your significant other what they want out of your relationship. The OL assumed that her GF wants stability and material prosperity, while the GF was too passive, I guess, to tell her that all she really wanted was frequent physical and emotional intimacy. Interestingly, the other way around is fine: the OL wanted to be dependable bread-earner in the relationship, and the GF gave her that in spades by staying at home all the time. Except that such one-way relationship is doomed to fall apart at the first major conflict.

What's with the bi hate? It's gross.

Welcome to the Dynasty Reader. :-) Also, we have people triggered by any positive depiction of men in a manga, as well as people questioning the justification for existence of any manga that doesn't follow the most formulaic of yuri plots (girl meets girl, girls falls in love, the other girl loves her back, they kiss, the end).

Whoa! When did this comment section became a warzone worse than the one at Citrus???

I never understand when people complain about other people discussing manga in a manga discussion thread.

A lively disscussion is way more fun than a bland one, where all everybody does is talk about how cute the story is. Plus I find I get more from the story, because I get to see it from different perspecitives.

Word. Thought thrives on conflict, and the truth is born of argument (among friends).

I personally no longer have any faith in the author's actual understanding of the topic they tried to tackle with Neeko, so while I do think Aldehyde will try to set up a better future for Neeko in the end, without a proper medical understanding of the actual needs of people with severe anxiety and depression, any "better future" they come up with will be based on false assumptions and ultimately even more aggravating.

You say Aldehyde doesn't understand, but someone on MangaDex who claims to be an actual therapist seems to disagree. At the very least, they say that Aldehyde surprisingly nails several symptoms of actual mental conditions in Neeko.

As Swag Wagon pointed out, depicting the symptoms is just one part of understanding the topic, while actually showing us how to overcome them is a whole other beast, and that's where I have no faith in the author's ability or, indeed, willingness to execute. I have already expressed in this thread my discomfort at the apparent mixed messaging of this manga, where we are seemingly expected to root for Neeko on one page, but to point our fingers and to laugh at her illness on the other. That is what makes me think the story will never reach a satisfying conclusion.

I think most of us now are here to see if it will get better for Neeko.

If I were in those circumstances, and it was my significant other acting like Kase, then I'd strongly consider breaking up. That level of mistrust and jealousy is toxic.

In that situation, I'd first strongly consider talking to the other about it, but that may be just me... My point being, Kase's possessive tendencies are not an issue until Yamada starts finding them uncomfortable and says so (at least to herself).

Did Yamada seemed forced in that situation or Scared? Like how she was back in the table alone? Hana probably thought "oh... Well looks like you'll be fine"

To me, Yamada seemed neither forced, nor scared. But then again, to me, it looked like Kase had breasts and wore heels and a skirt. :-) My point is that Hana is so bad at picking up on social cues and Yamada is so bad at sending them, the former wouldn't be able to recognize the latter's distress even if something bad did happen.

I uphold the notion that Kase-san has been analyzed more than the Zapruder film.

There is definitely a bit too much reading into things going on here. I highly doubt Kase-sans behavior is supposed to be "possessive".

I think a major part in this is that we get a new chapter every couple of months, giving us way too much time to speculate.

Not even Hana's early exit may have saved her much, because that girl was in such a hurry to get dinner, she may have left Yamada at the table with guys asking her to stay - and once again, Yamada is very very bad at saying 'no'.

and

Well regarding the fact that Kase should trust Yamada more... We have to consider that Yamada's friend would most likely get her out of that situation even if Kaze didn't show up... So yeah she was gonna be okay with the friend she trusted to hang around with.

Didn't Hana instantly abandon Yamada to her devices after discovering that some "guy" locked Yamada up with him in a bathroom stall?

2) Geez, ppl. Kase's possessive and Yamada dependent. They are both clingy in their own right, and just starting to figure out how to relationship. Bottom line: they love each other, madly. So far neither's attitude has hurt the other and, actually, so far their attitudes are complementing the other's flaws.
- Kase watches over socially inapt Yamada as she learns to become more outgoing.
- Yamada and her insecurities keep aloof and fickle Kase attentive and grounded.

This, very much. I may also add that Yamada is currently in the country-mouse-in-a-big-city position, and that is not what I would call an ideal context to learn social behaviors from scratch (given how she never got around to that in school). In fact, if this manga weren't set in a magic universe where plant people date track runners and nothing bad ever sticks, she would probably have long been taken advantage of and/or hurt by now.

SHE'S ONLY TEN, FUCKING TEN

But she has the eyes of a killer almost twice her age. She's quite the precocious young yandere.

Youngdere?
