French translation says Admiral is female by the way!

Actually, the French sub refer to admiral as female "elle". They make sure to make the show as yuri as possible. Last time I checked about the translation group however, they are not that fan of yuri genre. However, KanColle might be an exception as the French sub has lot more of subtext that the English translation has attempted to hide/tone down.

Admiral is actually female! There has been several hints all around the anime.
