Have you ever wondered what it would be like if two of your favorite musicians of all time teamed up in a super-duo that should create legendary sonic landscapes? It just happened in real life to me recently, when Tim Skold (Shotgun Messiah, KMFDM, Skold) and Nero Bellum (Psyclon Nine) created the project Not My God. The era of KMFDM when Tim was in the band and most of Psyclon Nine's catalog is some of my favorite music, so I was soooo pumped when I heard they were doing a project together.
But like most things you hype up inside your head, reality is often cruel. Their debut album is good overall, but with only 8 out of 13 songs being what I consider "listenable," it's also a huge disappointment. Tim's voice just really grates on me after a while, and I wish Nero had done at least some vocals on more than a single song.
Anyway, if anyone wants to, they can check out the video for the best song on the album, "Fiction". It has Nero's punishing synth and Tim's iconic vocals.
