Let's add a daughter to the mix.

Yeah, because the series is a drama. Also, have you not been paying attention to the story? The thing with Mogumo's parents has been building up for, at least, the last few chapters. Not exactly what I would call "forced".

I just can't get into it.

I say that exactly because it's been "building up" for a while: it was all very predictable how it would go. From when we "met" the father (or even before that), I knew how the drama would go up and then wind down after "a lot of shouting".

The characters are oversimplified caricatures.

Middle-aged men, on the other hand, thoroughly approve.

Well, this is a common trope in romance manga aimed at said middle-aged men, and I think it's a creepy mindset in Japan.

No wonder it's the country of compensated dating.

That is fine, it is your opinion, and to be honest, I do not really care about it. What does pique my interest, though, is that anytime someone provides a positive take, you dismiss it entirely. When someone actually bothers to provide studies on the subject, you dismiss those as well, and here is the point: you do so without providing any sources of your own that would run contrary to those studies, you just state that such sources must exist. That is what makes it so easy to write off your takes, because all anyone basically sees is "I hate this, I really hate this, I do not care what anyone says, including the people in the actual profession, this is wrong."

In my opinion (again), women who claim to enjoy (or at least to not mind) prostituting themselves to men, are just internalizing a submissive role in the patriarchy. So, if you dig around, you will obviously find women who say that "renting" their body to men is a job like any other. But in my opinion (again) they are fooling themselves. Once passed the "expiry date", their job will end and they will understand where their true "value" lied: in the male gaze.

You may rant all you want about the freedom of women, or progress, but our societies are still definitely driven by what males need or want. And it's not going to end anytime soon.

Now, don't misunderstand me: I'm not into misandry and a lot of men are perfectly nice to women, love them for who they are and these women are as happy as can be to love them. Men are an important part of humanity. Without one, I wouldn't exist anyway.

But as long as the overall power balance is the way it is, in my opinion (again), there's no way that prostitution will be a "normal" job.

If prostitution was a "normal" job, brothels for women wouldn't be oddities that mostly exist in fiction.

I wish people would stop making judgmental statements about prostitution if they don't know the first thing about it. Especially if they didn't even bother reading the conclusions of official studies and scientific surveys on the business.

Sources?

Because I think you can find "official studies and scientific surveys" that go both ways, or a little more nuanced than "prostitution good" or "prostitution bad".

Sure, brothels can be a plus for sex workers, because they get more security and health checks. That still doesn't make street prostitution disappear. It makes it "invisible".

Some people affect to think that if there's a legal way to practice it and some people are willing, then everything is fine. "move along, there's nothing to see here".

Meanwhile, immigrant women and kids are sold in some back-alleys. You can hammer that it's illegal, but then, brothels enabled that way of thinking: bodies can be bought and sold.

I don't judge the workers themselves, or those who are doing it willingly. I judge people making money of the more shady parts and of exploitation.

Are brothels a good thing? On some aspects, probably yes. In some others most probably not.

The fact that sex work is, for an overwhelming majority, geared toward fulfilling men pleasure, is telling about the power balance in this kind of "transaction". A sex worker, in the eyes of almost all those who buy their "service", even where it's legal, is not really a person. Their whole being have become a commodity.

I don't judge, but I can't fathom the reasons someone does that kind of job. I don't believe the bullshit of people who say it's just like any other job. In my opinion, our body isn't something that can be sold.

As for this manga, it's fiction. They are all happy hookers, living in a fantasy world where women can buy sex with women like it's something anyone would do if they have the chance, so I don't find it offensive.

It's just that the concept to fuck a lot of prostitutes in search of your childhood friend is one weird premise. But hey, it's Japan.

The gist of this manga is that she's accumulating experience before "doing it" with her childhood friend (and they live happily forever after).

This manga is skillfully avoiding the reality of prostitution. I guess it's fair, since it's not a manga about it.

I don't think so. Shiori's hairpins look like fish scales. A hint she's a mermaid.

Miko's pendant is just a triangle.

I'm pretty sure she wasn't actually trying to seduce him, but was just messing with him, as a game and because she was looking for inspiration.

She didn't seem like she really cared. I didn't detect any "lust" in her behavior. She was just manipulative.

A "rotten author", who probably just started as a "rotten girl".

I didn't find this particularly interesting, but whatever floats your boat.

Pack it up boys and girls, the big brains squad has spoken, there is no need to say what you want to say about what happen in the manga because you're all stupid to be upset about fictional characters.

I never said anything about fiction, au contraire.

You can find Yukako pathetic, or be upset by her behavior, but what the author probably wants is for you to be able to be in her shoes and understand that her choices, however bad they were, were a product of an environment, her upbringing and a lot of factors that were out of her control at the time.

So, myself, I can understand both Chinami and Yukako points of view. There's no right and no wrong here. Only circumstances and character.

Well, you can berate the husband though. He seems shitty enough.

Everyone knows that lesbians should be strong and fierce and never waver in front on social pressure...

Otherwise, they are just "trash"
