I think she's a misunderstood teen girl who's been told constantly not to show emotion or smile because she's somehow "better" by not being herself--whereas she got to constantly see Amane, the person she was probably closest to, be praised for being awesome and attractive and all that by being "allowed" to be her (albeit exuberant) self. And it gave her a complex. And was probably too much for her to handle, so she tried to create distance, but was stymied by how desperate Amane was to keep her in her life, and probably by her own miasma of contradictory feelings. "I love this person, but it also hurts to be with this person".

Now she's found a cute little camera girl who tells her how great she is when she's just herself. That her smile is OKAY, and even desirable. I can see why her behavior is weird, and why she's pursuing Kou. Even the nasty "look at me" display in the cafe; it was just that. "Look at me, I am accepted for myself now too, you're not the only one. Can you please finally let go of me?"

But I'm probably thinking too deeply about it. Thanks, insomnia!

This was me back on the 24th of June. Called it! Nene got herself a nice complex, but hopefully now that she's voiced it aloud to someone else she can work on getting out from under it.

More evidence that the systems holding the World today are outdated.

The city I live in has a LOT of indigent people, because it's the capital city for my state. People come here thinking it'll be better than, say, Seattle, and it's not.

Gotta say though, the food bank here is pretty awesome. There are several co-ops involved that grow and provide fresh fruit and vegetables for it, and you're allowed to go as many times per week as you'd like for fruits and veggies.

I just got home from the local food bank (hooray for being poor) and it was so frakkin miserable. It's hella hot out, and there are many people who go to that place that don't have the luxury of frequent showers. One such person cut in line in front of me and persisted in going into my personal space. I was furious, but because a lot of indigent folks have mental issues--and his behavior was definitely not the norm--I didn't dare say anything, so I stood there and endured like an idiot. Now I get to be salty about something so small and stupid for the rest of the day.

the people who are asking what might compel a person to do something like this didn’t read lol. It says that his novel may have been plagiarized by somebody in the studio. Although what he did was terrible, they were also at fault for trying to steal someone else’s ideas. Disney committed the same crime to the guy who produced “Book of Life” and “El Tigre,” and these big name studios needed to be taught a lesson.

So far there has been no evidence to show that the man's IP had been plagiarized. There is, however, evidence from records that he suffered from mental illness.

And you know what? Even if it HAD been plagiarized? YOU DON'T GO AND BURN 34 PEOPLE TO DEATH. Trying to rationalize it by saying they were also "at fault" is just gross.

This kinda reminds me of the one where two orphans were BFFs, and one was unknowingly a dragon who only turned into a dragon and ate people when someone was bullying the other. That one had a Bad End all around though, this one seems a lot lighter. lol

So Saeko is wearing the triangle shorts the girl in the first chapter was wearing, so given the dialogue in that first chapter, I think that scene is the aftermath of what's happening here, and that the next chapter will bookend with that scene, bringing the first volume to a close.

I'm not convinced. The triangle shorts might be a red herring.

Notice how Miwa's earrings in the first chapter, in the bed scene, are not the same she's using now. Also, the girl sharing a bed with Miwa doesn't have the birthday present earrings...

I think the earrings thing may have been a detail that the author ended up adding to a story she hadn't fully fleshed every little detail out for. I noticed it too but gave it a pass for this reason. But, guess we'll see eventually!

The fact that you're worried about people finding out about your plan to give a Christmas present to your friend, and then getting "the wrong idea", definitely makes me get "the wrong idea".

Isn't gifting someone outside of like family or very close friends on Christmas (aside from kids) typically kinda viewed as a more romance-y thing there? I don't mean exclusively romance-y, just, "stereotypical romance-y vibe" sorta thing? I know it's overplayed AF in most anime/manga, and obviously in this one we have Adachi who is clearly having a difficult time convincing herself that it's NOT weird for friends and it's NOT romantic, etc. But I'm not Japanese so I don't know the real truth of it.

All I know for sure is that it's pretty traditional to have fried chicken for dinner.

I don't know how closely it matches the intent, but my mental image has always been:

Nagafuji - Big'N'Tall
Adachi - Bit Taller Than Average
Shimamura - Bit Shorter Than Average
Hino - Tiny Yappy Gremlin Child

That has been about my approximation too, though I pictured Adachi as taller than Nagafuj. And the Tiny Yappy Gremlin Child is Yashiro. ;) Hino is... Smol Bottomless Appetite to me, lol

I'm not sure if she's a real shorty or just "not tall". Adachi is supposed to have a pretty noticeable height difference compared to Shimamura, It's been mentioned several times in several chapters, right from the beginning. Hino is supposed to be super short and smol, and Nagafuji is supposed to be pretty tall too, though I'm not sure how she compares to Adachi in height.

Give me one of those clumps of magic please. I wonder how they taste.

I scratched my head at the necessity of this particular plot-line too--I mean, a boomerang? How random--but I reckon it was meant just as a pairing from Shimamura's view to mirror the one we had just previous that was Adachi's. It solved the "mystery" of why Shima and Nagafuji ended up there together, since the previous chapter clearly set it up so that we the readers could tell that both Hino and Adachi were salty about their respective "best buds" being with other people, lol...... plus now we know Shima has a gift for Adachi, and Adachi is gonna go into "Overwhelmingly Excited Adachi-Inu" mode, which I personally am excited to read about next. :)
