Breaking up with an abusive relationship seems like pretty decent advice. Koto was way over the top.

they very much THINK is toxic

Yeah, that's a decent description. Could quibble about whether "depression" is the best term, but they both have Unfulfilled Emotional Needs.

What the hell is Erika doing here telling Aya she's not in love with present Koto??? Even that's the case, it's none of her fucking business.

Aya barely knows present Koto, there's been 7 years of change. And it's kind of her business when (a) they were all close friends and (b) Aya is turning to her for shelter.

To think you never date, spend most of your lifetime grumbling in pain

This applies to Koto too, except she had even less rational hope of Aya ever returning her love (or at all).

I only read the Amawashi translation, now up to 65.

Welcome to our very small club, MechaShade!

That's an interesting contrast to highlight, yeah. Ch 2, Shou runs to investigate the splash, whether to find "the mermaid" or investigate fishy stuff, I'm not sure. Ch 14, ignores it entirely in favor of Umi. Sort of a transition or closure point.

after this chapter,

Did you mean after 2 or after 14.2?

What I was trying to point out is that there is an understanding between Marika and Aya about Marika "Selling herself" to Aya and a contract being drawn up between the two that they both agree to, it doesn't justify that Aya went over the line but it is one of many factors that make the "infamous" scene not cut and dry.

Yeah, I'd call it a poorly negotiated CNC situation. No safe word and no explicit refusal of safe word. Closer to RACK than SSC, but not very Risk Aware. Aya had one expectation ("I can do whatever I want for the duration") and Marika was just winging it and responding to things, can't even call it a clear expectation.

Could have ended very badly, but they got lucky.

Only a few chapters, the main push is ShuuKara.

I doubt that joining a theater in hopes of getting laid is at all unusual.

Shuukara: the popcorn incident

Is that in MTL-only chapters, e.g. beyond ch 65 so far, or have I forgotten something already?

Don't parents usually call

No, I don't think that's widespread enough to be caused "usually". Like, a lot might, but a lot wouldn't.

The translation has a few obvious errors, but it's possible the "string of non-sequiturs" effect is the fault of the source material. Some shitty doujin, translated out of a sense of completionism.

Shuukara:

They break consent with each other all the time

For me the biggest problem has been (novel spoiler) when they bite each other hard enough to draw blood. At least once, Miyagi to Sendai, and I think other instances. That feels pretty far to me.

Arioto non-con: LN1/manga: So there's the LN1/manga scene, which starts rapey but ends ecstatically lovey-dovey; it should also be noted that's not the first time they have sex, Marika has been cumming in Aya's hands for a while, she just says sulkily that she doesn't want sex that particular day. Meanwhile Aya acts as if they're in a consensual non-consent relationship. LN5: Much later, there's a scene where Marika practically rapes Aya, assaulting her in the bar break room to feeble "not here" protests. Intermediate: Aya would love to have Marika as a total power exchange submissive and housepet, but won't force the issue. LNs 2 and 3 are basically 50% BDSM erotica. I think Aya does introduce a safeword later, though I don't recall it ever being used.

Oh man, good thing I used the Preview button, I got Discord spoiler bars confused with Dynasty forum spoilers.

Mitsuki's just straight up wearing the boy's uniform for their school now, huh.

Ah! I had noticed "difference", like not wearing glasses, but hadn't fully processed all the changes, like wearing trousers. Thanks for pointing that out.

The body language is night and day. In arioto, Marika's eyes are constantly open, she's holding fuwawa's face, and she never seems physically resistant to any of Fuwawa's advances, only mentally, and its the whole "oh this feels so good, even though Fuwawa's a girl..." stuff.

Thanks for putting together the comparison.

Arioto manga and LN alike, I think the 'rape' accusations boil down to one day when Mari said she didn't want to have sex that day and Aya pushed her anyway, not to the overall relationship (which was straight up prostitution/sugar dating, with a 'bet' twist.) And while Aya was in the wrong, Mari didn't end up feeling raped, but really happy, and wanting to pleasure Aya back. Plus thinking herself that she probably seemed like she was playing hard to get rather than emitting clear "No".

So huuuuh... Why aren't they dating yet?

My guess: because Wakaba liked a boy once and Komaki thinks Wakaba is straight.

what is the sister series?

"A Yuri Story in Which a Girl Who Says That Girls Being Together is Unbelievable Will Completely Fall Within 100 Days"

Similar type of story, similar agreement/game between MCs, MC who is similarly shown to be into things near immediately. They're both part of the same romance genre in a way (one that's been popular for a long time even outside of Japan). If you like this one, you might like that one too. I forgot the shorter nickname for that series...

Short name is Arioto.

Wasn't sure if you meant that or "buying a classmate", or if they were related in more than vague theme and tone.

What's the sister series and why?

joined Jan 14, 2020

Not so much assault as Komaki keeps making demands while Wakaba keeps going along with them with token protest

She tells Marie she'll overwrite the Romance Code. Probably thinks of it as setting her free, not murder. And remote power cut needn't be permanent either.

OTOH, given Kei's presentation on page 1, was Marie built from scratch, or is she some woman kidnapped and turned to a "robot"?

Don't use the word "rarted," thanks.

I had never heard the word before; seems to be new slang? You might want to explain why it's banned.

Well that Westermarck effect failed just like their parents' marriage.

Interesting article about this subject I dug up from the archives of yesteryear: https://www.theguardian.com/theguardian/2003/may/17/weekend7.weekend2

Lol that article was exactly what I thought it would be.

I think the twins were old enough at separation that Westermarck should still have taken effect. But I am not one to nitpick a hot incest story with boring reality.

Nagisa may be unused to drama of any kind. These are teenagers. Could have been going "??? DOES NOT COMPUTE, OUT OF CHEESE ERROR" at what Glasses was doing.
