Nah, last page has つづく, which basically means "to be continued". I imagine we'll get at least some portion of them establishing their life as a couple, dealing with parents, dealing with Midori's job, and so forth. They aren't out of the woods yet.

I noticed the Spanish translation is way more verbose that this one.
It's because they refuse to use Japanese loanwords like "sempai" and instead say things like "Momose, esa chica que estudia en tercer año."
If they did it like that in English, "Eh? Did she call me sempai?" would turn into something like "Eh? Did she call me in a way that implies she's a student from a year below?" lmao

The Spanish translation is the work of professionals.

There are 2 ways to translate a manga:

Aim for the greatest accuracy, translating almost word by word, with the utmost respect for the original text, even leaving untouched terms such as sempai or onee-sama (because they do not really have a translation that keeps the meaning)...

... or else rewrite and reformulate everything the characters say, making them sound exactly the way Spaniards (or Mexicans, or Yankees, or whatever) would sound ― were they talking about these matters in that context and situation.

Both have their pros and cons. Fan-translators do it the first way. Professional translators do it the second way (which, admittedly, is rather more difficult).

The Spanish translation of Suito-to is a good example of the second type of translation: the characters speak modern Castilian Spanish so fluently and naturally that you can imagine them on the streets of Madrid or Barcelona. The translation work so far has been fantastic.

The English version that we have here in Dynasty is the other type of translation: a classic work by fans for fans, respecting as much as possible the form and style and wording of the original Japanese text.

Comparing the two works and their differences sure is interesting, at least for me. d(´∀`)b

La traducción al español es absolutamente excelente. Se nota que son profesionales.

Hay 2 formas de traducir un manga:

O bien respetar con la mayor exactitud, casi palabra por palabra, la forma del texto original, llegando incluso a dejar tal cual términos como sempai o onee-sama (porque no tienen realmente una traducción que conserve el sentido)...

... o bien reescribir y reformular con gran cuidado todo lo que dicen los personajes, de tal manera que suenen exactamente como sonarían unos españoles (o mexicanos, o yanquis, o lo que sea) que estuvieran hablando de esos temas en ese contexto y en esa situación.

Las dos tienen sus pros y sus contras. Los fan-translators lo hacen de la primera manera. Los traductores profesionales lo hacen de la segunda manera (que, hay que reconocer, es mucho más difícil).

La traducción española de Suito-to es un buen ejemplo del segundo tipo de traducción: los personajes hablan el español castizo con tanta fluidez y naturalidad que te los puedes imaginar en las calles de Madrid o Barcelona. El trabajo de traducción, hasta ahora, ha sido fantástico.

La versión en inglés que han empezado a subir recientemente es el otro tipo de traducción: un típico trabajo por fans y para fans, respetando todo lo posible la forma y estilo del texto japonés original.

Al final del capítulo ocurren un par de cosas importantes. Primero, Sakura y Momo tienen una conversación que (bien al estilo japonés) está llena de ambigüedades y cosas implicadas y no dichas -- pero que parece llevar a que Sakura le diga a Momo que Momo obviamente siente algo por Yuzu, y Momo parece admitirlo!!! O al menos eso entendí yo.

Ok, so I have no intentions of going back and rereading previous chapters, but senpai was being a total bitch before, right? Like, I'm not just misremembering am I? And now she totally wants to get back together with Liz? Is this more screwing with her or has her character changed drastically as a result of their hookup?

The simplest explanation is usually the best. Imho, sempai is an example of that super classic, super typical trope: the lesbian who decided to turn straight after graduating from high school (because she didn't know better, and thought it was the "adult" thing to do) and only realized she was making a huge mistake many years later. We've seen in a flashback that sempai dumped Liz after telling her they both should find boyfriends in college, and then moved out of Japan (to America or something). The way I see it, she must have discovered in the West that there's nothing wrong with being a gay woman and having a female lover... and this led her to realize that she still wants Liz.

But, really, she's being a bit heavy-handed about it. She should start by offering explanations and apologies, instead of acting as if she had never done anything wrong.

(Btw, the reason this trope is so common is that it's a gigantic case of truth in fiction, y'know.)

I sure wonder what "an appreciation for Western aesthetics" actually means to a Japanese mind. I get what we are likely to interpret it as - female-friendly porn with a more relaxed, happy, and sensual pace and tone (though no less explicit) - but how does a native Japanese viewpoint conceptualize "Western aesthetics", both generally and in a pornographic context?

Not that I'm an expert on porn or anything (cough) but I have often noticed that in a typical Japanese porn video there's very little more to be found than two naked people going at it. A run-of-the-mill lesbian porn video, for example, starts with two naked girls on a plain white bed, against a plain white wall, who then proceed to have sex and go thro the whole gamut of sexual positions in a methodical and mechanical way. Then the video ends. We never learn who they are or what's their relationship, we never hear them chat, we never find if they were playing characters with some kind of backstory or if there are plot events that lead them to have sex.

In a Western lesbian porn video, even a cheap one, they will give the girls names and some basic character info, they will place them in a well-defined setting (if possible something lavish and pleasant to the eye), they will dress them in sexy clothes (that oc eventually come off) and they will have them talk a bit about their relationship and why they desire each other. I believe "Western aesthetics" in this case refers to these points: the attention paid to story & setting, the modicum of depth granted to the characters, and the varnish of realism it gives to the movie.

It's really not that often that you see a manga girl, at night, in her bed, hug and kiss her pillow pretending it's her crush -- with a picture of the person in question at hand, to help with visualization.

It would have been even funnier if they had translated the sound effects. That make-out session was hot! There were some really intense "SMOOCH" and "KISS" noises there. (ᗒ‿‿ᗕ)
